Sorry about the repeat message on this issue, but https://docs.continuum.io/anaconda/faq I had to delete my first GitHub account and create a new one, because I must have mis-entered my eddress when I originally set up my account, and it seems that the one thing you can't edit in your GitHub account is the eddress! Anyway, I have had the chance to install Anaconda on two more machines, a https://github.com/ContinuumIO/anaconda-issues/issues/216 Windows XP 64-bit desktop and a Windows XP 32-bit laptop. Same launcher fatal error message each time. Can anybody get launcher to work? I appreciate any assistance! Thanks!! Trentonoliphant commented Dec 1, 2014 Which python version are you installing anaconda with 2.7 or 3? I just did an anaconda install on a 32-bit Windows XP VM with python 2.7 and the launcher is working fine. TMKAIG1 commented Dec 1, 2014 Hi Trenton Oliphant! Thank you so much for responding. I used "Anaconda-2.1.0-Windows-x86.exe," which I downloaded from "http://continuum.io/downloads," and which is described there as "Windows 32-bit - Python 2.7 - Graphical Installer." That laptop on which I installed Anaconda is running Windows XP Professional Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_qfe.130704-0421 : Service Pack 3). It has a 2.6 GHz Intel CPU, and 3.4 GB of RAM. Trentonoliphant commented Dec 1, 2014 does it give you the same error message when you try to open the launcher from the command line or is it just from the start menu? I get the error below when I try to run Start/All Programs/Anaconda (32 bit)/Launcher: If I click OK, another popup menu offers to restart the launcher, bad file and the error cycle repeats itself Trentonoliphant commented Dec 1, 2014 Is there a reason you didn't want to have anaconda on your path? because that's why you're getting the error. I'd be curious to know whether you have resolved the launcher error bad file descriptor problem yet. Did putting Anaconda in your path do the trick? It didn't work for me (the installation process had added it to the path already). vanem commented Dec 3, 2014 Hello, Well the reason is simple: I need to have a portable installation of python, and keep system variables clean. Anyways, I could make a .bat file and temporary set the path, but than again, it's not possible to have a path that is relative to the batch file itself (so it runs if you change the path of the anaconda folder, and you don't have to update the .bat file). It's easy to have that with an .exe though, which I assumed it should be the case in the first place. amfarrell self-assigned this Dec 22, 2014 tswicegood assigned tswicegood and unassigned amfarrell Feb 12, 2015 tswicegood added Windows bug Launcher labels Feb 13, 2015 nubok commented Apr 5, 2015 I also have this error. The reason why I unchecked both boxes is that I don't want Anaconda to interfere with my default python installations. Meet this requirement via any of the following: Disk MBR x86/BIOS PReP partition of ppc64 EFI system partition on EFI Load Linux into your non-GRUB bootloader post-install: Windows Vista, Windows 7 Mountpoints You must have a boot partition. (min size? max size?) You must have a root (/) partition. It must be at least 250 megabytes. If you are doing a live install: The minimum space requirement may be > 250MB. It must be at least the same size as the live image itself (~600MB typically?) The filesystem must be the same as the live image's. (A known limitation being worked on.) You don't need a swap device, but we recommend it to improve performance. (Recommended size?) Swap devices should have a UUID. Older ones may not. If they don't, reformatting them will give them one. The swap device(s) must be intitialized. (What does this mean?) You may not create a separate mountpoint for any of the following; they must reside in /: /bin /dev /sbin /etc /lib /root /mnt /usr (is this for real? it seems some thinking around systemd / /usr move changes concludes this means /usr must be under /, some other folks think it makes /usr more split-upabble --Duffy 19:11, 14 February 2012 (UTC)) lost+found' You may create separate mountpoints for: /home /var /srv /opt Any new mountpoints you create must not already have regular files at the same paths on a device.
