Error message: ssh -v git@github.com OpenSSH_5.8p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0d 8 Feb 2011 debug1: Connecting to github.com [207.97.227.239] port 22. debug1: connect to address 207.97.227.239 port 22: Connection timed out ssh: connect to host github.com port 22: Connection timed out ssh: connect to host github.com port 22: Bad file number You will only see the bad file number message when on windows using the MINGGW shell. Linux users will just get Timed out. Problem: SSH is probably blocked on port 22. You can see this by typing $nmap -sS github.com -p 22 Starting Nmap 5.35DC1 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-11-05 10:53 CET Nmap scan report for github.co

error during hostname resolution These errors are usually the result of a firewall or antivirus you have installed on your computer. The solution is to either: 1) Turn http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7144811/git-ssh-error-connect-to-host-bad-file-number off those firewalls OR 2) Add an exception on port 22 for git.moovweb.com. Instructions to add an exception to your firewall will differ between firewalls but if you need help just email us at help@moovweb.com. To temporarily get around a "git clone" issue: When you generate a project, you will have the option to run "git https://help.moovweb.com/hc/en-us/articles/202717383-SSH-and-port-22-issue-Bad-file-number clone" If you run git clone on the URL, but with the following modifications: git clone ssh://moov@git.moovweb.com:443/account/project e.g. git clone ssh://moov@git.moovweb.com:443/nmakiya/myproject.git You should be able to then push and pull to your project. SSH / Error: Bad file number Error: Bad file number mac windows linux all This error usually means you were unable https://community.hpe.com/t5/Languages-and-Scripting/Intermittent-problem-with-BAD-FILE-NUMBER-errno-9/td-p/3614219 to connect to the server. Often this is caused by firewalls and proxy servers. When running remote Git commands or SSH, your connection might time out: bad file ssh -vT git@hostname # OpenSSH_5.8p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0d 8 Feb 2011 # debug1: Connecting to hostname [207.97.227.239] port 22. # debug1: connect to address 207.97.227.239 port 22: Connection timed out # ssh: connect to hosthostname port 22: Connection timed out # ssh: connect to host hostname port 22: Bad file number Solving the bad file number issue Use HTTPS Often, the simplest solution is to simply avoid SSH entirely. Most firewalls and proxies allow HTTPS traffic without issue. To take advantage of this, change the remote URL you're using: git clone https://hostname/username/reponame.git # Cloning into 'reponame'... # remote: Counting objects: 84, done. # remote: Compressing objects: 100% (45/45), done. # remote: Total 84 (delta 43), reused 78 (delta 37) # Unpacking objects: 100% (84/84), done.
