Then I set the boot sequence to Floppy, then the hd, and it still gives me the message.I'm a completely idiot when it comes to computer problems before the operating system starts, so dumbing it down would be appreciated.I've searched the error message and either I couldn't understand what to do, or the problem wasn't like mine.I'm basically doing a fresh install of drivers, OS, and everything.I start the computer up with the SATA driver in the floppy drive. I would recommend making a MSI

What does this mean exactly? It appears, with rare exceptions, only when the PC is started each morning. Once or twice in the six weeks since I purchased the computer, the error did not appear. I

My system worked fine an hour ago. All I did was install another processor, and when I did I notice a disk boot failure fan was plugged into the electrical connector intended for use by a second processor. Therefore I unplugged the fan from there, and in the process no doubt jerked cables around because when I rebooted two drives were not scene. I pressed the cable’s connection points together, and rebooted the machine. This time the drives were scene, verified to be working, and then at the end of the entire boot cycle, I get this error message “Boot Failure from Previous Device.” Can someone help me understand what information was corrupted to give rise to this hideous message? I am now told to put a boot disk in drive A. The only boot disk I have that works in drive A is for DOS. What good would that do? Instead I flashed the CMOS. That only changed the date from right to wrong. If I put my master system CD in the CD-ROM drive what good would that do? How do I get this machine running like it did an hour ago? Boot failure due to previous device Started by Ste , Jul 06 2006 04:39 AM Please log in to reply #1 Ste Posted 06 July 2006 - 04:39 AM Ste Member Member 143 posts Recently when I boot up in the morning I get the 'boot failure due to previous device' message. When I check the BIOS settings I see that the primary IDE drive is qualified as 'not installed'. I have reset it to auto but the following day it has the same problem and has reverted to not installed. I have reflashed the BIOS and cleared the CMOS twice (after which the primary IDE drive is recognized but described as 82 GB, it is actually 29.2.) I do not know how to find the info for making these settings specific for this drive but I would have thought that 'auto' would sort this. After clearing the CMOS it does state that the CMOS settings are wrong. When I take the computer into another room to attempt to fix it, it usually boots up. At this time of course all USB devices are disconnected i.e. printer, film scanner, and external drive (usually turned off) flatbed scanner (usually turned off) USB hub. Any clues?
