159 Answers SOURCE: brother 465cn print 36 error Error numbers in the thirties on this family of machines mean that either the printhead carrier is unable to slide back and forth, or it can, but the machine can't detect it. There are several possible causes, some of which are fairly easy, once you get the top cover under the scanner off.Lift up the scanner section and look at the top of the printer section underneath. There are two skinny covers snapped into the main cover, brother mfc 495cw printer offline hiding cables from the scanner. Each cover has a few small slots in it for you to insert a small, flat screwdriver to unsnap the hooks that hold the covers. Lift them out and study the routing of the cables before disconnecting them. It pays to take a few notes. One of the covers also blocks the removal of the support that's holding up the scanner. Disconnect that support so you can raise the cover higher. Unplug the cables and remove screw that holds a ground wire, and ease everything out of their channels. Now you can raise the scanner to just the right angle (probably vertical) and slide the scanner backwards off its hinges. Set it aside.The top cover is held on by several screws. Remove it. I believe there are at least two types of screws used; take notes.If you're lucky, you might find a wad of paper blocking the head travel, and pulling it out might fix everything. Or you may have a bad motor, bad cable, broken drive belt, bad power supply or main board. But the paper scrap is more likely.The machine has a thin strip of film running across the printer area. It's gray with very thin lines that a sensor detects as the head travels back and forth. The machines keeps track of where it is at all times by counting those lines. Easy solution is to clean all rubber coated rollers (2 grey ones directly touching paper, and the main black one running full length of printer inside) also all the solid plastic wheels you can get to, clean all of these with isopropanol alcohol and it will allow the rollers to grab the paper and start working again. richard · 1 year ago 0 Thumbs up 0 Thumbs down Comment Add a comment Submit · just now Report Abuse Pull out all of your cartridges, clean all contacts on cartridges and inside with a damp q-tip.
