Thanks again. 1 Pimiento OP reagp Mar 1, 2012 at 1:29 UTC I found the answer through a local retail printer repair shop. Turn the machine off, and then turn back on holding the "Menu" button at the same time and the "Maintenance" screen will come on the LCD. Scroll down arrow to "Fuser" and then "OK" then 99 to exit. You will likely

see the "Laser" on the screen after complete this procedure, because you usually replace the laser too, but just repeat the same procedure selecting the Laser even if you are not replacing the Laser. The error message will go away and you have just reset the life counter on both. 3 Pimiento OP mike_r_edwards_9 Oct 17, 2012 at 4:55 UTC 1st Post THAT DOESN'T WORK EITHER. YOU get into maintenance mode but no clue as to which of the 99 options is fuser life 0 Pimiento OP seanhayes2 Apr 10, 2014 at 5:34 UTC 1st Post When the printer is on, hold 3 & 9.. You will get a menu... Scroll to Fuser, and select it.. then Reset... Do the same for Laser, if you've also replaced the laser. 1 Serrano OP joe mm Apr 18, 2014 at 7:08 UTC This youtube on it might be helpful. It's actually for a 8480 but it's a similar printer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quGzXnDsZQA 0 Sonora OP Roy1070 Mar 22, 2016 at 5:53 UTC 1st Post This worked for a Brothers MFC-8910dw. it until I know how to get the old one out. Also want to make sure thats really the problem. When it prints, it makes a loud thumping noise. Also makes the noise during startup so http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/45427 I can open the back and see the fuser while it is making the noise. The fuser doesn't seem to be doing anything while it is making the thumping noise, very curious. It started when I got a paper jam message, http://www.fixya.com/support/t9378875-reset_fuser_life_counter_mfc but found no paper jam. Can anyone tell me if this is the fuser and if so how to replace it? or if its not the fuser, what is it? Respond to this 1 Just a couple of thoughts for brother mfc the DIY guys:To reset a fuser error, you don't have to do a reset in the maintenance mode. All you have to do is enter maintenance and exit, you don't have to reset.OR, you can just leave the machine sitting for about 10 minutes and it will reset itself. For the awesome experts, do your self a favor and prevent your house/business from burning down, or at least ending up with a fuser that's a melted pile of plastic, and don't brother mfc 8660dn reuse the cracked bushings, or leave them out, or use only half of one. These bushings are used to prevent the heat roller from contacting anything it shouldn't contact.Fires have been reported from laser printers having defective fusers, don't be the cause of your fire.Is the safety of your business, or worse your home, worth being such a cheapskate over a couple of 50 cent bushings? If you cannot find the bushings, either look around for used bushings or just bite the bullet and purchase a new fuser. At the very least, if your house or business DOES burn down, don't blame brother because you left out these parts. For the gent who replaced his toner and found bad noise and the door wouldn't open all the way:Was it a Brother toner or a generic? We have seen a ton of problems with cheap crappy generic toners that either seize up or are so tough to turn they cause the gear that drives the toner roller to break and crack. These gears are not available, and the entire gear assembly on the side of the machine has to be replaced. You get what you pay for. Too cheap to purchase OEM toner? Don't blame the manufacturer when your machine breaks down because you use refilled or generic toner cartridges. I have only seen this fault happen twice with OEM cartridges, and they were defective cartridges. I've seen it happen about 50 times with
