corona wire and wiped down the drum. Swapped it out with an old one and still get the error. Thinking there must be a sensor that detects this that is either dirty or bad. Cannot find any reference to it in drum error brother mfc 7840w the manual or on the web site. Any one got any ideas or info? Thanks Respond to drum error brother mfc 9325cw this 1 I had this happen on 2 different Brother printers and just resolved the problem on the second one - at least in my case.I drum error brother mfc 9840cdw disassembled the drum, cleaned the brush that removed excess toner from the roller (it was packed), put it back together and wallah it works!Previous to the problem on the second printer I used a refill kit to save money, which resulted in hazy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUzb17Q4ers printouts. What was happening is the refill toner is not compatible with the Brother printers and clogged up the wiper brush. Nearby we have a Cartridge World, and they do not supply remanufactured cartridges for the newer inexpensive Brother printers probably for this reason. Brother likely has a patented toner recipe that is necessary for their printers rendering self-service and after market refilling ineffective. On the first printer this happened to I think it had a remanufacured toner cartridge that I purchased online.Lesson Learned: As http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/58075 much as I hate being controlled like this - only use new Brother toner cartridges to avoid the problem. It may cost more for the cartridges, but will save you in the long run.Cleaning Procedures:1. Remove drum and toner assembly2. Remove toner from drum3. Remove small metal c-clip from one side of the drum roller shaft (be careful not to lose clip)4. Pull shaft out from other end5. Lift roller assembly straight up - might require slight prying6. Carefully remove roller from roller assembly without touching the roller.7. Wipe (soft cloth), vacuum, etc excessive toner out of the brush 8. Carefully wipe down the metal wires to remove excessive toner9. Carefully reassemble the drum/toner assembly10. Clean the corona wire with the green tab.11. Insert drum unit12. (DO NOT TOUCH SMALL WIRES!) 6. return slide to original position. 7. snap the plastic cover back in place 8. return each color cartridge to it's slot. 9. replace color cartridge holder back to printer. 10. close all covers 11. turn printer back on. If you still get the "move green slide" error, just repeat these steps This took me about 10 minutes for the process, after understanding what the "green slide" meant. I get lots of calls on these machines for the Drum Error code. Most times I see this error it is for one of two reason. First, the customer doesn't run very many prints and the drum starts having issues that seem to be more of an age situation. Second, and the most common one I see is third party toners. OEM toners tend to run dirty in these machines but when you throw in third party toners it can get extremely dirty. Brother has timed the wear on these toners just right. The seals inside them fail right about the time you get the change toner message. Lots of third party companies just add cheap toner to them and clean them up. This leads to huge toner messes in the machine, premature wear on the drum, and extremely dirty corona wires. To extend the life of your drum and other parts I strongly recommend using OEM toner and drums in these models. Troubleshooting the Drum Error Code 1. Remove toners, open the white plastic covers on the drum and slide the green tab back and forth 10 to 15 times. Make sure you put the green tab in the home postion or you will get a line running down the page. If you have a Q-tip, get it slightly damp and gently clean the corona wire. This works better than the green tabs. If you see lots of toner build up on the metal charge grid then remove the drum unit from the machine and take it out
