still under warranty, Brother is going to replace the MFC free of charge. This just happened to my father, who is setting up his new MFC tonight. Brother never explained what error 71 signified, but immediately ordered a new printer brother mfc 4800 fax machine to be shipped. by Anonymous on Aug 26, 2005 at 6:28pm Add comment Please sign in brother mfc fax machine instructions to comment 0 error 71 = polygon motor does not synchronize with the reference clock.I've always solved this problem with just unplugging the machine, wait drum error brother mfc a few minutes and then plug the machine back in.Never had the problem again. by spin2 on Aug 27, 2005 at 1:16pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 have a mfc 9700 was copying nicely ,i tried to change to http://www.fortwayneprinterrepair.com/wordpress/2011/11/21/machine-error-71-brother-mfc-8440/ another mode and it has loocked up on me,just get a beeping sound no matter what key i press, its out of warranty already.Any help? by unknown on Mar 8, 2007 at 12:02pm Add comment Please sign in to comment I have this same problem....how did you get it fixed? - Anonymous 0 OK now lets see if any one can really help, I get ERROR 71 and I don't have any paper jams and I unpluged it for a long time, Did'nt work. Now http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/14572 what? by Myfinegems on Jun 4, 2009 at 6:43am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Well spin2 told you what the error is. The laser scanner motor. Pretty much the motor needs to get up to a certain RPM. Most machines its around 20,000. If the machine doesnt do this or maintain it constantly it will through up this error becuase it cant properly write the image to the drum. So you have two options replace the laser scanner or try and lubricate the motor bushings in it. The laser scanner sits right below where the paper exits when your printing so its some what a process to get to it. by nivek on Jun 4, 2009 at 9:28am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 The guy at Brother said this had to do with the printheads. I asked him if there was a document, like a manual, about this. He said he "just knew it." by Anonymous on Jul 24, 2009 at 2:22pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Later I called a local shop and they said that printheads are in inkjet printers, and fusers are in laser printers, so maybe the earlier Brother guy meant fuser. I don't know what to believe. by Anonymous on Jul 24, 2009 at 6:51pm Add comment Please sign in to comment Please sign in to comment Unknown Printer Buy discount ink Buy this printer © Copyright 2011-2016, FixYourOwnPrinter.com, Inc. Can you help? Share this conversation Expert: Richard replied2 years ago. Hi. I am Rick and I will be your printer professional. Can I ask how old the printer is? Ask Your Own Printers Question Customer: replied2 years ago. Not sure but about 10 years old Expert: Richard replied2 years ago. Ok Dennis, the reason I asked is brother mfc fax that the error code 71 is a problem in the scanner unit motor. It is dragging and the printer cannot get it to the proper rpms. This is usually an indication the motor is about to go out all together. This motor is activated regardless of what function you are using so even if you were not scanning the error would still show. THis repair involves having the motor replaced and re syncing it to the printer, a job that will cost as much as the printer to do. Sorry for the bad news but if I can help further please let me know.
