anybody please explain me how do we handle errors while using Bulk Insert? I need to capture the exact row errors and on which column? If we cannot do that using Bulk Insert Task is there any other alternative for Fast Load and capture exact row errors? Set the batch size smaller than the default, for example 50,000 rows. Connect the error output to another OLE DB Destination, but this time without the Fast Load option. Connect the error output of the second OLE DB Destination to whatever component you need. When a batch fails, it will be redirected to the second destination, which will re-attempt the insert, but on a row by row basis, allowing you to extract the individual error rows. All the data is loaded correctly and yet SSIS shows that its failed. I don't get it. Why ? The so-called error is - [Bulk Insert Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Bulk load data conversion error (type mismatch or invalid character for the specified codepage) for row 1, column 1 (My_ID).". I am using SSIS 2008 and SQL server 2008 for this one. sql-server sql-server-2008 ssis etl share|improve this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19671214/bulk-insert-task-fails-but-actually-succeeds asked Oct 29 '13 at 23:40 Steam 1,94193983 1 Did you set your setting to continue on failure in the SSIS package ?? are you sure you have got all the rows in you table after this error occurred ? because it seems like your text file had some column names and you didnt set the FIRSTROW = 2 in your bulk insert statement. –M.Ali Oct 29 '13 at 23:47 That makes sense. I had not set FirstRow = 2. It was 1. You can put this as an answer if you want. –Steam Oct 29 '13 at 23:53 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Did you set your setting to continue on failure in the SSIS package ?? are you sure you have got all the rows in you table after this error occurred ? because it seems like your text file had some column names and you didnt set the FIRSTROW = 2 in your bulk insert statement. share|improve this answer answered Oct 29 '13 at 23:54 M.Ali 42.5k93364 thank you mr.ma –Steam Oct 29 '13 at 23:56 Not a problem pal, glad I could help :) –M.Ali Oct 29 '13 at 23:56 2 and in most of the cases its better to stop execution in case of er

I don't mean just keeping those rows inserted prior to the error; I mean inserting all rows that aren't errored. sql-server error-handling bulkinsert share|improve this question edited Mar 16 '12 at 15:23 skaffman 276k62614652 asked Jul 17 '09 at 16:20 Will 95.8k41233337 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted If you bulk insert task use SSIS, you can redirect the Error Output of the Destination to a garbage Script Component or a flat file. I often do that so I can then examine the rows that went awry. Additionally, if you're using BULK INSERT, then you can use the MAX_ERRORS (setting it to a very high value) and ERROR_FILE parameters to specify how to handle errors effectively. share|improve this answer answered Jul 17 '09 at 16:35 Eric 53.4k88296 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
