Was it telnet or something else? Your troubleshooting starts there. If you have the core file, and you are skilled in debugging/viewing core files (or have someone in your team/office) then start there. That file will give you the source line before the core occurred Remove advertisements Sponsored Links google View Public Profile Visit google's homepage! I've seen this with bad sysplanars. described in defect number 198179. Solution Two possible solutions to this problem are listed below. Create the http://bio.gsi.de/DOCS/www.coredumps.de/doc/ibm/aix/aix_hints_and_tips/6412544.htm mksysb with the -p flag. The -p flag disables the software packing of the files as they are backed up. Some tape drives use their own packing or compression algorithms. This flag only applies to AIX Version 4.2 or later. Upgrade to AIX Level 4.2.1.0 (IX58183). My code is in fortran90 and it as usual starts by declaring the variables: .... REAL(DP), INTENT(INOUT) :: Vz_LHS(nx,ny), Vz_RHS(nx,ny) .... Right after the declaration, I put the following: Vz_LHS = 0.0E0_DP write(*,*) http://computer-programming-forum.com/49-fortran/c712beadf0481cdd.htm ' This is ok!' Vz_RHS = 0.0E0_DP ! The code then crashed here. http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21534223 Then the code crashed at the line above and returned me the following: Bus error (core dumped) What's wrong with my code and how to solve it? I need a hint. Since Vz_RMS has the attribute INTENT(IN), it must be a dummy argument. What was the actual argument passed to it when it failed? It's Vz_RHS that matters -- I bet the actual argument is a constant. See discussion in recent thread "Lint on a non-constant expression" on this and related subjects. (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) Getting Bus Error core dump on install.ksh Symptom PART: DCS 6.2 DCSGetting Bus Error core dump on install.ksh Resolving the problem Made a seperate shell script using the function GetResponse and called each of the GetResponse called in the original script with the actual values substituted. Found one which had created a core file and increased the length of the string passed by one (or) decreased the length by one. This solved the problem. This is an operating system error. A string is stored into memory by the operating system. If this part of the memory is corrupted , then the next invocation with the string constant could cause a bus error. In such cases , changing the string constant causes the string constant to be stored anew and the problem will go away.
