Discussion in 'Windows XP' started http://computerhelpforums.com/threads/error-1628-failed-to-complete-installation.14995/ by chevy38, Apr 10, 2009. chevy38 Guest This problem only exists with http://forum.i3d.net/threads/1628-failed-to-complete-installation-patch-1-4.53376/ Windows XP64 bit Pro, I have had XP32 Pro but thought that I might get better use of my AMD64 processor and better performance in general with 64. For the most part, so far, I like the 64 bit. But when trying to install a game patch(Activision CODWaW vs. call of 1.1 - 1.3, or COD4 patches) I have in previous patches had to run the installation as admin or I would get this error? Now, with the latest 1.4 patch(581MB) that doesn't even work. I have checked open processes, cleared temp folders, tried in safe mode. I am not alone, for I have combed any gaming forum referring to this problem, and call of duty I see that it is also a problem with other software updates/downloads. Please advise if anyone has an answer, or 64 is history! chevy38, Apr 10, 2009 #1 niki215 Guest I have exactly the same problem, but do not have any answers. I can't install the latest v1.4 patch for Call of Duty World at War on my Windows XP Pro x64bit system. I tried all the recommended fixes on google, ie. making sure my windows installer was fully updated, cleaning out temp files, installing in safe mode, etc, but nothing works. -- niki215 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ niki215's Profile: View this thread: niki215, Apr 16, 2009 #2 phatboy42 Guest Here is your answer to the fix that error ...I am a gamer myself and I had the same problem when I try to update patches so, here is how you fix that..
