I tried using http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/267317/reboot-problem/ the bootable recovery CD and got this "cannot set temp path to work in" and error in big letters. It is running vista 64bit. I even tried putting in an xp pro cd and figured I would just do a clean reformat and load xp and got errors doing that. I have been reading and think it is a partition issue, but I don't understand any of the cannot set partition software sites especially if I can't boot the system, can't get into safe mode or any command prompt. I'm perfectly fine with replacing the hard drive if that might help, but I would love to try free soloutions first. I am OK with computer issues, but step by step would be awesome. Thanks so much. ru8yr3d, Oct 18, 2009 #1 DaveBurnett Account Closed Joined: Nov 11, 2002 Messages: 12,970 Get a copy of EaseUS Partition Master (free) and create a recovery CD for it. cannot set temp Boot from the CD in the Asus and see what the partitions look like DaveBurnett, Oct 18, 2009 #2 ru8yr3d Thread Starter Joined: Jul 27, 2002 Messages: 34 I feel like a complete loser. I couldn't get the last screw out to even see what type of hard drive was in the laptop. We went to the store to get a small screwdriver and the sales person opened up the case for us. The hard drive was never screwed in and had come loose....that was my problem all along. Thanks so much for your response anyway! ru8yr3d, Oct 18, 2009 #3 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. I turned off the laptop and turned it on, but it has started giving message “Reboot and Select proper Boot device Or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key” I have checked Boot Device Priority, it was showing 1st Boot Device to Network, which I have changed to Hard Drive, but still same message. When I switch on, it makes continue weird noise. I have allot of work and software on this laptop and do not want to loose it using recovery dvd. I copied ISO file, when I ran that file on the computer, I received following message: “A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
