The following problem: I have now decided to realize my entire cannot use real-time scheduling (rr/10)(1: operation not permitted) audio editing with crunchbang. So I installed all the software that I need for recording and editing.Okay, the problem: I can't unlock the real-time function. The following error message is from Jack: Can

not lock down memory area 82274202 byte (Not enough memory available) During the installation of jack I've specified that I want to have realtime support. (And this old machine is capable doing this. I did it in Linux Mint and it worked okay) Now all these programs start with the message that not enough memory is available (at least for realtime recording). What I have tried so error: jack: cannot use real-time scheduling (rr/5)(1: operation not permitted) far? First I checked in the console the state of things: ulimit-r-lAnd this gave me : real-time priority (-r) 0 max locked memory (kbytes, -l) 64So I thought that at installing jack something went wrong. So:sudo dpkg -reconfigure -p high jackd2Here I was asked again if I want to use the real-time setting. Then:sudo adduser Goeran ( thats me ... hahahaa ) audioterminator told me: you are already member of this group, freakmmmh, okay restart, maybe ...Logged in, checked it, again ulimit -r -l .... nothing has changedNow I looked to the /ect/security/limits.d/audio.conf :@audio - rtprio 95@audio - memlock unlimitedEverything allright. I copied this to the limits.conf. (Dont know if this necessary) Reboot again, checked again, same result. Then I checked in the terminal, the message from jackd --debug:jackdmp 1.9.10 Copyright 2001-2005 Paul Davis and others. All you have to do for this is give your audio group permissions to access the rtprio, nice, and memlock limits. To do this, you just need to run these commands: sudo su -c 'echo @audio - rtprio 99 >> /etc/security/limits.conf' sudo su -c 'echo @audio - memlock 250000 >> /etc/security/limits.conf' sudo su -c 'echo @audio - nice -10 >> /etc/security/limits.conf' Carlo Capocasa (carlotheman) wrote on 2007-05-31: Re: [Bug 108718] Re: Jack does not start with real time scheduling #2 Hi, thanks for your help. When I start up Ardour, I can create a new session, but whenever i type in a name and click on 'open', it just kind of crashes, giving me an error saying it could not create the session and this log file:

I'm new to the whole audio scene, and i'm still not quite sure what jack actually does or why I'm getting weird interferences on my mic, but I don't think this is the problem here, right? I'm also getting a message informing me of Ardour not being able to free up enough RAM, but I also don't think that's the point. Can anybody help me here? See this short thread for a much earlier release, where the OP posting included your error message, and I also posted there my /etc/security/limits.conf additions which I have always needed for jack, up to and including openSUSE 13.1 (but not using Ardour). The variable cpu frequency warning is related to the cpu's 'on demand' status, I expect; so, this warns you that you will get x-runs (drop outs) if you don't change tha
