Not 100% sure whether this is the right place for it though, so moderators - if you believe this should be somewhere else please move it. First of all this is only provided as advice and you cannot hold me responsible to any damage you do to your car or accessories. You might want to disconnect the car battery before removing the changer, however I don't. This is common sense, but

I'm going to mention it anyway: Be firm but gentle. You don't want to break anything. Keep your screws and other small bits safe, you don't want to lose them. Also remember which way parts go after you remove them. My changer is Alpine and I'm not sure how other variants would differ. First of all start by removing the CD changer from the boot. You don't need to remove the trim completely, just remove it enough to be able to reach the 4 screws holding the changer in position (2 on each side). Undo the screws and be careful not to lose the metal pieces that are on the reverse side and tighten the screws. After you do this unplug the cable (there's a little "button" to press on the connector which will make it easier to pull out) and take the CD changer out. If those instructions aren't clear enough and/or you'd like pictures let me know and I'll do my best to get some. The next steps are best done indoors. First thing you need to do is remove the front plastic cover. To do that push the 8(4 on top and 4 on bottom - top pictured) small plastic inserts down and pull it out. Careful not to snap any. Next you need to remove the 2 plastic bits on the sides, unscrew the 3 screws on each side and remove the black sticker-like things: Now you need to get the cover off to reveal the wizardry inside

The display reads "no disc" after the initial CD seek. I have removed all the CDs and the caddy and moved the disc order but still it is the same. I notice that although I can hear a motor whirring in the changer, the drawers are not actually opening (this used to happen as it checked each disc) Is there something I could try by stripping this down? Perhaps a gear or part has slipped or jammed? Also, is it easy to remove the changer from a Cabriolet? it looks like there is a lot of boot lining to remove first? I know it's only 3 screws to remove it and then open it up. But I see on the player's case a hole labeled with a white letter "E". I know that the usual German word for "eject" is auswerf, but lots of German electronics use the English nomenclature eject. Does any one know if this hole is some kind of eject mechanism, or am I going to take the thing apart? 2000 528i Sport Billsteins Brembos SS brake lines Reply With Quote 187.153.158.141 Become an Inner Circle member to remove these ads. 07-28-201210:51 PM #2 JimLev View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Registered Member Location Pembroke, MA, United StatesMember No: 4328 Join Date Oct 2000 Posts 19,983 Rep Power 36 | Don't remember that hole in mine, but it could be there and for what you said. I do recall there is a switch or lever that you set for the orientation the deck is mounted in, horizontal or vertical. Just a few mods. If it ain't broken make it better and quicker!
