player will not play CD's anymore. You can hear the CD spinning and spinning, but after about fifteen seconds, an error message comes up. I assumed the lens needed cleaning, so I purchased a CD lens cleaner and, you guessed it, it will not play that CD either. Duh! I have read that removing the radio fuses and then plugging them back in will "reset the CD player back to factory settings." I tried that, and all it did was set my radio's clock back to 12:00! I'm pretty sure the answer to the question is "that's a shame... buy a new car stereo." But if anyone has any bottom of the ninth, two outs suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks! Update: Ya Alex, I pulled mine out of the dash too... Problem is it looks like it will be like breaking into Fort Knox to get at the lens.... I'll probably end up over-paying for some car stereo joint to fix it. Either that, or probably end up breaking the thing. Thanks! Hello; The type of problem you are experiencing is internal to the CD player; disconnecting the battery or doing anything else external is not likely to have any effect on it.What you might want to try is to run a CD player cleaner disc through it; if it is a problem caused by a dirty head or pickup, this sometimes helps. CD cleaner discs are available http://www.justanswer.com/car/3aupz-cd-player-disc-error-will-not-play-cd-s.html at Wal-mart or any electronics store. If this does not help, the CD player will need to be removed from the car and sent in to a service center to be repaired. Here is the contact information for one of the larger electronics repair centers that auto dealers and repair shops use for this type of service:http://www.unitedradio.com/automotive/ Ask Your Own Car Question Customer: replied6 years ago. this was no help, not able to put cleaning disc in player Expert: Steve replied6 years ago. In that case, the unit will have to be removed and sent in to a repair center to be repaired by an electronics technician. This is how car dealerships and mechanics repair this type of problem; this is not something you can fix yourself at home in the driveway (nor can your mechanic even with thousands of dollars of professional equipment to work with). I provided for you above a link to one of the largest repair centers that professional mechanics and dealerships use for this type of repair; usually they can quote you a repair estimate over the phone if you call them and explain what type of radio you have before you even send it in.One other option is to purchase a used CD player from a salvage yard, an
3 months ago and then would give me a error message when i would try to play a CD. The message read E-04 on the CD player display. The radio and everything else worked great. I just replaced the factory CD player with a Sony CD http://www.automotiveforums.com/t618242-cd_player_error_message.html player and when i went to play a CD, it gave me the same error message on https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/what-do-the-error-messages-mean-on-the-cd-player the screen. Anyone have any ideas what is doing this? shorod09-11-2006, 12:48 PMAre you referring to the in-dash deck, or a CD changer? Are you using a Sony changer with the factory deck, or you replaced the factory deck with a Sony deck? (Sony was the OEM of Ford audio for a few years, as was I believe Clarion and Alpine.) -Rod pacmanac09-11-2006, 02:46 PMHey. Thanks for cd player the reply. I replaced the factory CD deck with Sony CD deck. No CD changer. Both give me the same error message and won't play CD's. Any idea? shorod09-11-2006, 10:33 PMIt sounds like this error means the deck is not able to read the CD. Are you using burned CDs, or purchased CDs? If burned, did you be sure the "close" the write session and not leave the CD open (multisession)? It could also be that the lens is dirty, the CD is damaged, or car cd player the CD is inserted upside down. Whatever the cause, the player is not able to read the CD. As for burned media, I see some people have had issues using media burned with a DVD burner (E-04) but success when using a regular CD burner. -Rod pacmanac09-12-2006, 01:46 PMAll the CD's I am using are not burned, but purchased CD's. I just think it's funny that both CD players are giving me the exact same error message. I will try cleaning the lense and see if that works. I know the Sony i replaced the factory CD player with had been sitting in a box for about 6 years. Thanks for your help. shorod09-12-2006, 08:54 PMThis won't be what you want to hear, but I am an electronics technician by hobby (electrical engineer by education) and the only CD player lasers that I've seen fail have all been Sony's. For what it's worth, I am not a fan of Sony audio products. Since Sony made audio systems for Ford at one time, it doesn't surprise me that you get the same error code on both, as your factory deck may have been Sony internals and software. It doesn't appear that really any external factors could cause the E-04 error code (assuming the deck is installed correctly and getting good supply voltage). Hopefully cleaning the lens will take care of your issues. If not, you may also want to try cleaning the spindle motor with electrical parts cleaner or DeOxit. If that doesn't wor
