User: N/A Computer: ourserver.OUrdomain.local Description: There is no valid SMTP Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate for the FQDN of remote.ourdomain.com. The existing certificate for that FQDN has expired. The continued use of that FQDN will cause mail flow problems. A new certificate that contains the FQDN of remote.ourdomain.com should be installed on this server as soon as possible. You can create a new certificate by using the New-ExchangeCertificate task. Do SSL certificates need to be re-issued and installed? up vote 12 down vote favorite We are moving servers to another facility with different block of IP addresses. Will we need to get new SSL certificates issued and installed once the move has taken place? If so, is there any way to get prepared for this before the server is moved instead of waiting for it to boot up to http://serverfault.com/questions/81736/moving-servers-and-ips-will-change-do-ssl-certificates-need-to-be-re-issued-and then go through the process of requesting from IIS, going to certificate vendor, etc? ssl-certificate share|improve this question asked Nov 5 '09 at 14:08 dmr83457 1771415 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote accepted Most (I think ALL) SSL certificates are domain-name-based, so there should be no need to get a new certificate as long as the hostname of the server will be the same after the move. It will require a DNS change, timed with the move, however. share|improve this answer answered Nov 5 '09 at 14:14 Vatine 4,3791218 add a comment| up vote 12 down vote No, SSL is tied to the domain name, not the public IP address. For your prep though, you should set your DNS TTL to be low, so that propagation is quick. The only time SSL and IP clash is when you are working with multiple SSL certs on a single IIS box. 6 years later, I wanted to add a quick edit to this one. I know the question wasn't about assigning an SSL cert to an IP, but that is possible. ""An SSL certificate is typically issued to a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) such as "https://www.domain.com". However, some organizations need an SSL certificate issued to a public

The name mismatch error indicates that the common name (domain name) in the SSL certificate https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/9468/2223/why-do-i-get-common-name-mismatch-error-in-my-browser doesn't match the address that is in the address bar of the browser. For example, if the certificate is for www.paypal.com and you access the site without the "www" (https://paypal.com), you will get this SSL certificate name error. certificate error If you aren't the website administrator you will want to always access the site with the full name (usually include the "www." before the domain name) or ask the website owner to fix the problem. If you are the website administrator, you will usually want to forward all traffic without the "www" to an address with the "www" and get an SSL certificate with the "www" in the common name. That way you will completely avoid the mismatched address certificate name mismatch error. Some certificate authorities get around this problem by issuing a certificate with SANs. So you can get a certificate for paypal.com and include a SAN of www.paypal.com so you don't get a name mismatch error. Another common reason for this error is if you are accessing a server using an internal name when the SSL certificate on it just has the public name on it. In this situation you can get a UC certificate that has both the external public name and the internal server name in the certificate. You can verify whether you will get a name mismatch error by using our SSL Checker. Most web browsers make it clear that you shouldn't just continue when you receive this error. This is because, while most of the time it doesn't, it could indicate that a phisher is trying to pass a website off as a legitimate site. You shouldn't have to continue through this error message on legitimate web sites. This error is often phrased differently depending on the web browser. These are some common ways the name mismatch error is stated in other browsers: Different name mismatch errors in different web browsers Web Browser Error Message Internet Explorer 6 "The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site" Internet Explorer 7 "The security certificate
