accepts that there can be faults that are not worthy of alerting the operator, and in such an instance there can be a stored code but no light. Under what circumstances can there be a Check Light but no stored Code? It is possible to have a code stored without a check engine light, but it is not possible to have a check engine light without a code. Emmission failures are any failure that increases the car's emissions beyond the EPA's allowable specs. Hope this helps. When I try to read the code with an ELM adapter to my laptop I do not get any stored codes. If I do the ignition on off three times it does not display a code on the dash. I have even left the battery unpluged overnight and the light come on instantly when starting the car.The light came on when I was coasting downhill and turning the ignition off to save on gas.Is their adapters that will read more codes then the cheap ones th
