Award Software, Inc. BIOS ROM checksum error Detecting floppy drive A media INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER What's going on? I don't even have a floppy drive, so why does it think I have one?I can't go into BIOS settings

or ALT+CTRL+DEL or anything, I'm just stuck at that screen.This is an IWill KK-266-R with I believe the latest BIOS revision (I'm pretty sure it was, can't check now)The thing is I had this once before, but I just removed all DVDs and CDs from my DVD and CDRW drive and then it booted fine, although it forgot it's previous BIOS settings (no matter, I just set them again). You need to flash the bios again, using a boot floppy, as the bootblock bios does not have support for CDROM/Hard drives.It should just be a bare minimum bootable floppy (win9x) and have the award bios flashing utility plus the current/latest bios for your board. Be aware that trying to type more than 25 characters or so in the command line isn't going to work, so it should just look like the following (where awdflash is the name of the flashing utility minus the .exe or .com and the mybios.bin is the f

Specs: ECS k400-m2 bios checksum error ver. 3 mainboard via vt8237 chipset phoenix bios AMD sempron 2400 processor 256 MB kingston Memory 40 GB HDD nvidia mx 4000 videocard os windows xp prof sp 2 problem: After dislaying the memory during start-up, this message appears: "bios rom checksum error", a never-ending short beeps are heared and it also requires a bootable disk. i tried booting it using the disk but all i can see are the system files. i tried clearing the cmos by changing the jumper settings and also by removing the battery for about 30 minutes. i tried to power-up the pc again but nothing happened so, assuming that by updating the bios it will solve the problem, i downloaded a new bios (awd862.exe) and its flash utility(k4m2v301.bin), saved it to the bootable diskette, enabled the jumper that allows the bios to be updated and tried to update the bios (by typing "awd862 k4m2v301.bin " in the a: prompt. Unfortunately, my pc hangs up and wont finish updating the bios. and now i am thinking that i made a wrong decision by updating the bios. oh and the by the way the keyboard is acting really strange--the numeric keypad wont work and some keys

Explanation: The read-only memory (ROM) containing the BIOS program is protected by a checksum value as a double-check that the ROM code is correct. This checksum is compared against the values in the ROM each time the PC is booted and if there is a mismatch, this code is generated. Note: This error is not the same as a CMOS Checksum Error, which refers to corrupted values of the CMOS settings, the ones you set through the BIOS setup program. This error means the contents of the BIOS code itself are damaged. Diagnosis: The BIOS ROM chip on the motherboard is probably faulty. It could also be another component on the motherboard.
