To do so, open command prompt ad Start/Programs/Bureau-accessoires. Than you type: chkdsk /F The parameter gives the order to do so and to fix it if needed. (When using command prompt http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/247349-49-solve-file-directory-corrupted-unreadable-error from the disk or when Windows needs still to start, you will have to use the parameter /P.) Because Windows has the HDD/SSD in use, it will ask you to do ad the next reboot/Windows start. Press y or j for yes. Reboot and before Windows really starts, Windows will do the disk check. Than you could do the next: Put in the original Windows Installation DVD. Please run the Chkdsk utility" what??? i have been getting random messages like this from the taskbar in windows vista, like when i try to view pictures with windows piccture viewer (it has stopped working), and when i launch the google sidebar. i tried running Chkdsk from the basic C:\> prompt, and i got this message: the type of the file... show more i have been getting random messages like this from the taskbar in windows vista, like when i try to view pictures with windows piccture viewer (it has stopped working), and when i launch the google sidebar. i tried running Chkdsk from the basic C:\> prompt, and i got this message: the type of the file system is NTFS. cannot lock current drive. it also asked to reschedule the volume to be checked next time i restart because the volume was in use by another process. i chose yes, then i tried to run the whole process again in safe mode, and i got the same message all over again. i am no tech geek, but if i get step by step help i would probably be able to fix it. does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do? i don't like the fact that i have corrupt files on my computer...thanks!
