the CMOS Checksum Bad Error, hence they can be handled effectively. The Error Explained A checksum is computed as an error detecting code to guard the BIOS american megatrends bios cmos checksum bad settings stored in the CMOS memory. The CMOS Checksum Bad Error is an

error that occurs when the CMOS values turn out to be incorrect. The CMOS memory stores a specific value normally american megatrends press f1 to run setup to guard the BIOS software. Each time the computer is booted, this value, which is a number is checked against the stored value in the CMOS memory. If these two values are different, it

causes a CMOS Checksum error message. If these values are the same, the computer boots normally. Each computer usually deals with the CMOS Checksum Bad Error differently. Some computers warn the user and continue to boot up using settings in the CMOS, while other computers might warn the user and use the default settings in the BIOS as the correct settings and carry on with a normal boot cmos checksum error defaults loaded or reboot. Usually, the strategy the computer employs is stated in the error message. Causes of CMOS Checksum Bad Error There are usually three main reasons that a CMOS Checksum Bad Error occurs. They include: CMOS Battery may not be functioning properly. The battery life may have expired. The user or a virus may have updated the BIOS. The computer may not have been shut down properly e.g. shutting off the computer's main power without first shutting down the computer (MS Windows requires the computer to be shut down before the power is shut off). Solutions to CMOS Checksum Bad Error The CMOS Checksum Bad Error can be fixed easily by following the listed steps carefully. CMOS Battery May Not be Functioning Properly If the user suspects that the CMOS battery is not functioning properly, he/she can easily change it. Before changing the battery, reboot the computer to make sure that the error still exists. If it does, go into the CMOS and write down all of the settings. If all the settings are lost, they can usually be retrieved from the computer manufacturer. Now locate the battery and remove it. Consult the computer manual or technical support to remove you

The CMOS contains cmos checksum data related to BIOS and may have been reinitialized. It may also be possible to fix the problem by reinitialising BIOS. The problem could also occur due to the depletion of the CMOS battery. If the user cannot locate the pin battery, the help of a computer technician should be taken to prevent damage to the hardware or cmos checksum error motherboard. The CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded should be solved after changing the CMOS battery. Symptoms Solutions: Symptoms When starting your PC, the following error message is displayed: CMOS wrong CMOS MEMORY size WRONG CMOS Checksum Bad CMOS checksum error defaults loaded Warning! CPU has been changed please re-enter cpu settings in the cmos setup and remember to save before quit! You are prompted to: Press F1 to resume Press F2 to load default values and continue This is due to the fact that the CMOS, which contains data related to the BIOS, has been reinitialized and that your PC has been reset to factory settings. Solutions: Reinitializing the BIOS Before making any costly maintenance try: reinitialized the BIOS. Change BIOS battery If the problem persists this may be due to the fact that the battery powering the CMOS (when the computer is shut down it allows the CMOS to store information), is depleted. The CMOS battery is a small pin found on the motherboard; you can refer to the manu

The updated BIOS is revision P01.B1, downloaded from Gateway's website in the support/drivers section. I was able to flash the BIOS successfully using an SD card, but the machine hasn't been bootable since. Here's what it does: Starts up with a normal BIOS splash screen and single beep ("Press Del to enter setup", etc.) Begins bootup process, about 5 seconds Immediately before it would otherwise start looking for a boot device, beeps twice Then this error appears: [American Megatrends logo] CMOS checksum error Press Del to Run SETUP Press F1 to Continue Pressing Del enters BIOS setup, and the system is rebooted when I exit setup. Pressing F1 reboots the system right away, so I can't proceed any further in the boot sequence. I've tried just about everything in my bag of tricks, including the following: Flashing the machine several times with the BIOS, using several different SD cards, in case a write error somewhere was responsible. No dice, same problem every time. Taking out the CMOS battery, waiting 5 minutes, and putting it back in. Choosing "Load Default Settings" in the BIOS, then save/exit. Also tried this procedure with "Load Optimal Settings", and loading defaults on each page of settings. Any changes made do persist, but don't resolve the problem. Disconnecting all of the disks from the machine. The problem persists even with no disks connected. Disconnecting each DIMM (it has 4 2GB DD3 modules). No boot without memory, of course, but problem persists with just 2GB of RAM installed. Using the CLR_CMOS jumper on the motherboard. This did indeed clear the CMOS (I got a CMOS Date/Time Not Set error on the first boot afterwards), but didn't resolve the checksum error. Checking the CMOS battery. A multi
