checksum error Report • #1 OtheHill February 25, 2009 at 13:21:40 I don't know if you can flash your BIOS from a CD disk. At any rate you won't be able to backup the old BIOS file. That is the recommended procedure. You don't know what is wrong with the computer but it is doubtful the BIOS is the problem. I would look at the RAM first. Download memtest86 and run it from a boot disk. Images for CDR or floppy are both available. Download the one your need. Instruction s are also there. There is a free version at the link below as well as help.http://www.memtest86.com/If you start getting errors when running memtest then stop the test, shutdown, unplug, and remove all the RAM sticks and insert and remove each stick 4 or 5 times to clean off any oxidation from the contacts. If you still get any errors then try one RAM stick at a time to determine what is defective. Report • #2 jam February 25, 2009 at 13:30:45 It's NOT a software problem! You do NOT have to reinstall Windows. You have a hardware problem. Check the motherboard battery. Hi, I posted in the other thread. It looks like that is the correct ISO for your computer. Since the problem is related to a bad BIOS flash it should work for you. This post and post #12 in that thread should help explain the basics. Feel free to ask for any more information or help. sach2, Apr 15, 2011 #2 Caliban I don't need no steenkin' http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/help-bios-rom-checksum-error-on-presario-sr5027cl.236090/ title! Greetings, MFA. I suggest starting from scratch - you've got too many variables here. Reinstall your original RAM, see if your symptoms change. If not, try to revert to your original BIOS version. Pull the CMOS battery for several minutes, see if defaults are loaded (you might even consider replacing the battery). Check all connections, especially hard drive. Caliban, Apr 15, 2011 #3 MFA Private E-2 Hello, Thank you for replying. I apologize for my delayed response to Sach2 and Caliban. I had to shift my attention to a work assignment before spending time trying to repair my computer. Meantime I've read a bit about computer ISO files and memory in order to comprehend this better. Sach2 and Caliban offered me two different approaches to resolve my problem. Caliban suggests I reinstall my original RAM and if no symptoms change, try to revert to my original BIOS version. However, I never removed the original RAM as I was advised to update the BIOS prior to removing the original RAM. I am a bit confused about how to "revert to my original BIOS". If I could easily revert to the original BIOS without losing anything and then just switch out the old memory sticks for the new ones, that would be simple. Is there a simple way to revert to original BIOS? I can't use the on/off button to start/shut down the co

A checksum procedure checks an Operating Systems’ files and folders for consistency (whether corrupted or not). If the consistency checks fail, then a checksum error is displayed.Things You'll NeedNew CMOS cellPhillip head screwdriverStep 1Go to ‘Start’ >‘Turn off your Computer’ >‘Restart.’ Press Enter. Wait for your computer to shut down. When it starts booting up again, press ‘Del/F10’ key. You will be redirected to BIOS of your computer. Note different parameters listed down in your BIOS. These parameters are ideal temperature of functioning of your computer, time and date and booting sequence of different devices. Use navigation keys listed at the bottom of the BIOS window page to navigate. Press ESC and ‘Y’ to come out of BIOS. Your computer will start to boot up again. Once your computer is switched off, remove all power plugs connected to it.Step 2Take off the outer casing of your CPU by removing the screws and sliding off the outer case to one side. Locate the CMOS cell on the motherboard of your computer (motherboard is a rectangle shaped circuitry inside the CPU). A CMOS (complimentary metal oxide Semiconductor) cell is a silver colored, coin shaped cell, resting in a socket of the motherboard. Pull it out of the socket gently.Step 3Put the new CMOS cell in old one’s place. Replace the outer casing of your CPU. Screw the outer casing and connect all power cords that you removed earlier. Now, switch on your computer.Step 4Enter BIOS once again just as you did earlier. Tally the parameters that you copied. Only one i.e. the time and date would have changed. Set it right by entering the correct time and date from your keyboard. However, if any other parameter is changed, then set it correct by navigating through to it and press Enter when you reach the desired choice.Step 5Press ESC and then
