I have installed rsync and created the rsyncd.conf file Code: [backup] path = /home/cuschu/backup comment = My backup folder uid = cuschu gid = users read only = false auth users = cuschu secrets file = /etc/rsyncd.conf.secrets I installed cygwin in order to run rsync and this is what I get Code: $ rsync 192.168.1.105::backup rsync: failed to connect to 192.168.1.105: Connection refused (111) rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at /home/lapo/packagin
Post #1 of 4 (126 views) Permalink GCC Upgrade Problems - Why does emerge --sync not work Hi there, I've been trying to upgrade my Gentoo Laptop to 3.4.6 with the upgrade guide.. Everything seemed to go OK except now when I issue emerge --sync I get the message >>> Starting retry 3 of 3 with rsync://140.211.166.165/gentoo-portage >>> Checking server timestamp ... rsync: failed to connect to 140.211.166.165: Connection refused (111) rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(107) [receiver=2.6.8] . I thought maybe I would repeat the upgrade process but can't get passed "emerge --oneshot sys-libs/libstdc++-v3". The compilation starts and then always seems to freeze at "In file included from /var/tmp/portage/libstdc++-v3-3.3.4/work/gcc-3.3.4/gcc/expr.c:39 /var/tmp/portage/libstdc++-v3-3.3.4/work/gcc-3.3.4/gcc/recog.h:227: warning type of bit-field "mode" is a GCC extension." I have a feeling I removed all the old GCC versions previously with "emerge -aC =sys-devel/gcc-3.3*" which is why it keeps failing. Another problem is that my laptop randomly freezes solid since upgrading GCC necessating a power cycle in order to get going again. I'm sort of thinking of rebuilding my system from scratch (presumably with emerge -e system and then emerge -e world) or am I just wasting lots of time. I susppect I've done something stupid ...
