I also could not find the HD on the device manager. After unplugging the USB cord a couple of times and restarting the computer, I still had no icon for the HD. I unplugged and replugged the HD and still http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?83910-Maxtor-3200-XP-code-10-error no icon, but it did show up in device manager - but it showed the: This device cannot start. (Code 10) message. I googled code 10 and tried uninstalling/reinstalling driver as well as uninstalling turning off computer and hoping it would install on restart. The message I received was the current driver was all I needed and still no icon. Any help is appreciated! The files are all still intact on the drive. If you don't have any success with the above USB sticky, and the warranty period is over you can likely remove the harddrive from the case and connect it manually into a pc. Last night when I got home from work I saw a bunch of errors. It kept saying stuff like 'Can not read F:' and loads of other things. I saw maybe 10-15 error messages. Now when I load the code 10 device I get code 10. I had it in USB 1.1 then. It always worked fine. I always try to ue safely remove device. I have a USB 2.0 PCI card I put in for it incase that might work. I tried the device manager to uninstall the driver and reload it. It KNOWS it is there. It makes the sounds and says 'Maxtor 3200', maxtor error code but has that Yellow circle with !. The Code 10 'Can not start' error is the problem. Replacement isn't a problem. I got this where I work (RadioShack) so I can just go back and switch for a new one since I had service plan and all that stuff. I just want to get my data off. I figure I can remove the out casing and put the actual Hard drive inside my machine, but this thing is tricky. =P If anyone has another idea, or knows a way to open it WITHOUT destroying it let me know please. Anything other questions let me know.
