7 IT Pro > Windows 7 Installation, Setup, and Deployment Question 0 wg311v3 windows 10 Sign in to vote I have a PC with a netgear wg311v3 wireless PCI card. However, I can't get netgear router code it to work Initially (after the install of Win7), there was no driver at all (none on the disc), so I had no internet So I hooked up ethernet cable to http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/56/~/troubleshooting-network-adapter-installation---device-manager-error-code-10 my laptop & ran windows update over the shared internet connection (which works fine), and windows update successfully installed a driver for the card (with correct name etc). However, the card does still not work, the device manager shows "device cannot start (code 10)". After browsing trough the internet, I found that previous builds of Win7 (before 7100) did work correctly with https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/2da12c68-6945-4b4a-9428-0c0338ab61c0/wg311v3-driver-does-not-start-code-10 this card, and even had the driver on disk, but the current one doesn't for some reason. Can someone provide me with the driver that was bundled with the previous Win7 builds and/or point to a driver that DOES work on Win7. (btw, the card isn't broken, it works fine under other OS, so it is a Win7 problem) Sunday, June 07, 2009 11:30 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I have a PC with a netgear wg311v3 wireless PCI card. (Code 10)" Error I recently tried to install a USB printer on my Windows XP machine and after Windows detected the printer, I got the following error message: The device cannot start. (Code 10) http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/the-device-cannot-start-code-10/ If you're having this same issue, here are a couple of things you can do to troubleshoot problem with USB devices. Firstly, if you have more than one computer, you'll want to determine whether http://www.deltatangobravo.com/archive/2005/march/wirelesscode10 the problem lies with your USB device or with the computer by attaching the USB device to the second computer. If it installs fine and works, then it's a problem with your computer. If code 10 not, it could be something faulty with the USB device. However, it could also be a bad driver that does not work on any computer regardless of which one you connect it to. In any case, here are two ways to try to solve the problem: Method 1 "“ Uninstall and update USB driver This errors is mostly caused by old device drivers that have to be updated. The best device cannot start way to make sure you have the latest and most up to date driver for a device is to go to the manufacturers website and download it from there. Then you want to go to Device Manager and if you see the device listed there with a yellow exclamation point, right-click on it and uninstall the current driver that is causing problems. Go ahead and re-connect the device and when asked for the device drivers, point to the folder with the new drivers. If this does not work, try method 2! Method 2 "“ Use USB 1.1 or 2.0 cables/ports This may seem fairly simple and obvious, but it should be mentioned since it can cause this problem. If you are in IT like me, you probably have 50 USB cables laying around from dead USB printers, cameras, etc. If you try to use a USB 1.1 cable for a USB 2.0 device or a USB 2.0 cable for a USB 1.1 device, you may get this error. Make sure you use the correct USB cable type with the correct speed of the device. Be warned, it could be as simple as switching cables! Also, if you are plugging in a USB 2.0 device
for almost anybody except hopefully for the few beleagured souls on the web who have suffered the same wifi problem I've been experiencing. I'm mostly putting this up here on the off chance that someone will come across it and find a solution to an extremely frustrating problem in their hour of need. About two weeks ago, the Cisco Aironet MiniPCI wireless card in my Thinkpad suddenly was refused by my Windows XP system on boot. I've had the card installed for over a year and now all of the sudden I started experiencing this problem. All I was left with was a useless CODE 10 error message. Today, I finally found a solution and an explanation of the problem at Experts Exchange. Apparently it's a "registry corruption in the networking section" and is fixable only through a clean reinstall of the OS or the following strange solution offered by Daniel Alexander. His solution worked for me and hopefully will for you as well: Go to ControlPanel > System > DeviceManager > NetworkDevices Uninstall the driver for your wireless card If your card also has software installed, go to ControlPanel > Add/RemovePrograms and uninstall that software Shutdown your computer Remove the wireless card Click Start > Run and type Regedit Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Enum > PCI Right click on the PCI folder and choose Permissions Change the permissions somehow. I selected Everyone and gave that group Full Access. Reinstall the software and/or drivers for your card Shutdown your computer Put your card back in Reboot your computer That worked well for me and everything has been going smoothly since. Hope you found this helpful.CommentsComments are locked.
