Did you do a clean OS install onto a formatted partition or did you install the OS ontop of the old one? What have you done regarding the network once the OS was up and what exactly have you tried to fix the problem? Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement dstnrgrs Thread Starter Joined: Jun 1, 2011 Messages: 5 Hi everyone. I'm working on a friends Compaq CQ50-215NR. The wireless works fine, but the ethernet jack on the side does not work. Checking the Device Manager, Network Adapters - NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller has a yellow ! (exclamation point) on it. It says that the device cannot start (Code 10). I used CPUID - CPUZ to determine the chipset. It's a NVIDIA GeForce 8200M Rev. A2 chipset. I have downloaded the drivers from nvidia.com and tried installing them manually through the Device Manager, but it will not start. This laptop had Norton Internet Security 2010, and I thought it may be interfering, so I uninstalled it with the Symantec Norton eraser tool. Still didn't work. Anyone have any ideas? I've googled like crazy, but have not found anything solid. Thanks in advance. dstnrgrs, Jun 1, 2011 #1 Sponsor flavallee Frank Trusted Advisor Joined: May 12, 2002 Messages: 70,205 Here is the support and software site for the Compaq Presario CQ50-215NR laptop. According to its product specifcations section, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1(32-bit) pre-installed. You didn't mention the Windows version in it, so I'll assume it still has Windows Vista and hasn't been upgraded to Windows 7. I've checked the driver downloads for Windows Vista and Windows 7, and there isn't a driver listed for the NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller. ------------------------------------------------------------------ flavallee, Jun 1, 2011 #2 TerryNet Terry Moderator Joined: Mar 23, 2005 Messages: 71,977 Perhaps the ethernet controller is included with the chipset drivers.
