an error message "System Configuration Error (Code Purple)". After some research I found it is because I previously upgraded my mobo. What I cannot find is a simple solution to my problem. I have been http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Code-Purple-Error-Help/td-p/359373 kicking around a couple ideas, but don't know if either will work or if there is one that I haven't thought of. 1. Buy a new version of Windows and install it. 2. Reinstall the old mobo, get everything up and working, then switch back to the newer mobo. 3. Anything you good people can come up with... Thanks! Alright, big guy: Out with it if you do know. Or perhaps you intend to code purple tease us all year with your wealth of knowledge on the subject? -W 3 5/7/2007 (7:41 pm) by Whiskers Whiskers (1964 Posts) Code Purple error results when you try to install a Compaq/HP tattooed OS onto a non-tattooed motherboard. If your computer is a Compaq or Hp, then your tattoo on your motherboard is either improperly tattooed, damaged or missing. This tattoo can go missing if your computer has been in configuration error code a shop and had its motherboard replaced with a non-Compaq/Hp tattooed motherboard. Sometimes even computers that are repaired directly by Compaq/HP are returned with non-tattooed motherboard and have their OS reinstalled using a non-tattooed version of the OS. To repair this, you will have to get the motherboard retattooed by Compaq/HP in order to reinstall the Compaqa/HP tattooed OS install disk that came with the computer. An alternative to doing this is to purchase a retail copy of the OS, such as buying a retail copy of Windows XP. These retail copies of the OS will install on any brand of computer and do not require a tattoo to be present. 4 5/7/2007 (8:07 pm) by Will Will (2088 Posts) Whiskers You missed the point: While we both know I know all this already and can pull posts to prove it, I wanted the person that made the claim to back up his words. It is a pet peeve of mine to post something like that without the answer unless it is done with good intent as in a personal communication meant to teach, aid, or point one in the right direction: I feel that if he knows then why post he knows without the facts to back it up? Regardless, some tattoo issues
