System Configuration Error (code purple) Windows Vista purehate July 24, 2010 Errors 51 Comments Tweet I am not sure how I have been lucky enough never to encounter the HP/Compaq booby trap but until today I was so fortunate. Apparently HP Tattoos a https://www.question-defense.com/2010/07/24/hpcompaq-system-configuration-error-code-purple-windows-vista number in the bios of their motherboards so that when you try to use http://www.geek.com/forums/topic/reconfigured-hp-pc-code-purple-help-please/ the factory recovery, it checks to make sure the stock motherboard is in place. If it is not in place you get the following error: Your system has detected a configuration error. Please report this error to Customer Care using the phone number found in the Warranty and Support Guide that came with your PC. Unless corrected, code purple this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. (Code Purple) I mean seriously? HP does not want you to be able to change the motherboard in their PC's. I am guessing this is some idiots solutions to piracy somehow but in any case I will stop complaining and get to configuration error code the solution. It took some searching but I finally found a solution to this problem. There are a few ways to do this but basically there is a script in the recovery image of the operating system which checks the bios for the correct motherboard code. It is a pretty simple batch script which says if the numbers don't match return a exit status of 1 and give the code purple error and if it does match give a exit status of 0 and move on to the clean up phase. I will say that normally you would have to mount the drive on another computer or boot a rescue disk of some sort in order to do this but it turns out that HP was nice enough to give us access to a cmd.exe window even when receiving this error. 1. Once the error box comes up press shift and F-10 to get a command line. 2. Navigate to the following folder. bash C:\\hp\\bin\\checkdmi\\ 3. Enter the following command. bash checkdmi.cmd 4. The code looks like this: bash if ERRORLEVEL 1 goto mismatch goto cleanup REM ------------------------------------------------------------------ REM Found discrepancy in the DMI. Notify the user with the localize REM message via lg.ini, then shut down the system immediately. REM ------------------------------------------------------------------ :misma

Started 6/15/2007 by Peter Robert Green in Tech Support Forum (16 posts) 1 11/30/2005 (4:33 pm) by stacy stacy (2 Posts) I reconfigured our HP PC recently and I got a Configuration Code Purple Error. We had to have our Motherboard replaced last year and I'm pretty sure that has something to do with it. The motherboard was replaced by a local pc "fix it" place and they never told us we should not reconfigure the pc since there was a new motherboard installed. Is there anything we can do to get this PC up and running again without spending hundreds of dollars? Unfortunately it is no longer under warranty and I was not happy with the service at the local place that replaced the motherboard so I'm hoping there is something we can do ourselves to save this PC. It's a great PC and all I was trying to do was clean it up a bit by reconfiguring it. I've done it before without problems until now and I know it has to do with the motherboard being replaced. Can anyone help? Thanks! 2 11/30/2005 (5:57 pm) by Ray Bay Ray Bay (3949 Posts) If this is the HP with the lid on top, under which you can store two or three CD's, lift that up and tell us what is printed on the little sticker... It should be a date, model number, and serial number. If not there, we need all the info off the label on the back... series, model, swbom, hwbom, serial number, etc. We need this information to give you a decent response, as HP's are so different from each other... and their model number on the front is so wrong compared to the actual model number t
