Can't run The First Decade properly on Windows 10 Started by chimekolover, 3/08/2015 07:14 PM command and conquer the first decade patch Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next Please log in to reply 22 replies to this command and conquer the first decade windows 10 topic #1 chimekolover chimekolover Unranked Members 6 posts Posted Monday, 3 August 2015 - 07:14 PM Just got the free upgrade to Windows command and conquer the first decade trainer 10 and when i tried to see how this game would run on the new OS most of the games wont work anymore. the games i had trouble with are the original game and Tiberian Sun plus Firestorm, command and conquer the first decade windows 8 Renegade, and Generals plus Zero Hour. when i try to run the original it just gets an error and will crash. i tried adjusting the settings like running as administator, running in compatibility for Windows 8 and it looks like the game will run but then it asks for me to insert a C&C disk to play. i never did that on my Windows 7. for Tiberian Sun and Firestorm it would go to the menu
Command And Conquer The First Decade Windows 7
but freeze when i try to select a menu option like new game, options and so forth. after doing the same things i did to C&C it asks me to insert a disk to play. Renegade seems to run. i can hear sound and even use the controls but the issue is the screen is 100% blank, just black. Generals and Zero Hour both require disks to play. idk if anyone knows a way to fix these issues or if there are patches being made for this new OS. 0 Back to top #2 Plokite_Wolf Plokite_Wolf File hoarder Moderators 5,207 posts Location:Split, Croatia Favourite C&C: Posted Monday, 3 August 2015 - 09:24 PM First patch TFD with the 1.03 rev4 patch: http://www.cncnz.com...official-patch/ Then patch Tiberian Dawn with the 1.06c r3 patch: http://www.cncnz.com...official-patch/ Then patch Tiberian Sun with this fix: http://cnc-comm.com/...hp?topic=3438.0 Try running Renegade in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 or, if necessary, Windows 98 (the Windows 8 one isn't a good idea and you won't change anything). Generals/Zero Hour (or any other game) should no longer ask for the DVD because of the 1.03 TFD patch. While Freeing More Than 1.5 GB Of Hard Disk Space In The Process (*) (*) compared to a normal installation patched with the official patches. Though compared to a bare install it's probably still over 800 mb. 1. Getting Started Before getting started: Make sure your DVD-ROM supports dual layer DVDs. BE ADMINISTRATOR. No exceptions. If you're not on an administrator account you will have LOADS of problems. On Windows 7, ALSO make sure you always use the "Run as administrator" option, even if you are administrator. Okay, now... install C&C: The First Decade. Shouldn't be too hard. For all patches and fixes in this guide, keep in mind that unless you choose custom install and change the installation path, TFD will be installed in this directory: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\ If it's not there, simply right-click on the TFD launcher link on your desktop, go to Properties, open the Shortcut tab and see which directory it launches from. That folder should be the subfolder "Launcher" of the main TFD install folder. There should be a "Find Target" or "Open File Location" button to go right to that location. If you go one directory up from there you'll end up in the main install folder. Since I'm a C&C1 and RA1 modder/hacker, this guide is mainly focused on these 2 games, so most of it will be useless if you don't install them. So install them. They're awesome. Note that in this guide, I will refer to the first C&C from the TFD pack as "C&C95", since it's the Win95 remake of the original DOS C&C1. After installing, let's get to the patching! There are 2 official patches for The First Decade, but I no longer advise people to install them, since the fan fixes (C&C95 v1.06 patch, RA1 main.mix patch & XCC Shortcut Installer) do the same thing in a much cleaner way. If, for some reason, you'd still want them, you can find them here. 2. The patches Now here's the real stuff. As I already mentioned, the official patches should not be used, since they manage to add about half a gigabyte of extra space to the installation, whereas these fan-made fixes repair the same problems while freeing up some 800 mb of unnecessarily wasted space.
