Ora 12545 Connect Failed Toad
question, but I cannot for the life of me connect to an Oracle 11g database. The following works while using System.Data.OracleClient - but obviously this is depreciated. When using the exact same code but using Oracle.DataAccess.OracleClient I get the following error {"ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"} Here is my code using (OracleConnection con = new OracleConnection("Data Source=orac;User Id=SYSTEM; Password=Pass;")) { con.Open(); Console.WriteLine("Connection opened"); OracleCommand cmd2 = new OracleCommand("SELECT * FROM SYSTEM.TABLE", con); OracleDataReader oracleDataReader = cmd2.ExecuteReader(); while (oracleDataReader.Read()) { Console.WriteLine(oracleDataReader[0]); } } Could anyone help me out with what I am doing wrong? I had to change the program to be 32 bit for the Oracle.DataAccess.dll to load. Is this even the correct library to be using??? ORA-12454: connect failed because target host or object does not exist tips Oracle Error Tips https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21562119/ORA-12545-error.html by Stephanie F The Oracle docs note this on the ora-12454 error: ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist Cause: The address specified is not valid, connect failed or the program being connected to does not exist. Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.) If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the host name to a numeric IP address and connect failed because try again. On Oracle DBA Forums, a user posts about having problems connecting on local workstation options to a new database. Below are the specifics of the question, as well as the original conflicts with ORA-12545: Question I have Oracle 9i installed on my local Windows XP workstation that will be used for local development only. Now I am trying to create a database and using OEM Database Configuration Assistant.I put in FirstDB for the Global Database Name and put in FirstDB for the SID.I completed the wizard and set up my tnsnames.ora file with the SID and hostname. Then I tried to connect using OEM with the Sys login and it says:ORA-12545:Connect failed because target host or object does not exist.Should I put in localhost or 127.0.0.1 for my Global Database Name?I assume I connect as Sys or System and the password I created right after creating the database. Please advise on how I can get this to work? Please help me resolving this issue. I think something is wrong the sid or the host or machine name. how to know the name of the sid? how to find the machine on a red hat linux server? The following are the steps i did to restore a oracle database 1) copied the usr/local/oracle directory 2) moved it to a different server /usr/local/blackboard/apps/modperl/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started [exec] Could not make master connection: DBI connect('host=slate;sid=bboard;port=1521','bbadmin',...) failed: Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12545 (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach) 0 Question by:zkaiserm Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 2 Best Solution bycpunate9 First, realize that this is two errors: 1) The client can't find the error text, meaning that it can't find ORACLE_HOME 2) ORA-12545 means that it can't find the instance you're trying to connect to. Go to Solution 6 Comments LVL 2 Overall: Level 2 Message Expert Comment by:cpunate92005-09-14 The "Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12545" means that the OCI library can't find the files containing the error messages, and this is usually due to a missing ORACLE_HOME env variable. Make sure that the ORACLE_HOME environment variable is set for the process httpd. In Apache, you can set it in the conf file, using the directive: SetEnv ORACLE_HOME /opt/oracle Where /opt/oracle is the ORACLE_HOME. 0 Message Author Comment by:zkaiserm2005-09-14 This is a blackboard software. The tech support you should not set the ORACLE_HOME env variable. the blackboard automatically does that. any insights. 0 Message Author Comment by:zkaiserm2005-09-14 LSNRCTL for Linux: Version 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on 14-SEP-2005 23:36:37 Copyright (c) 1991, 2002, Oracle Corporation.
