Solved I Can't Connect to Oracle via TOAD - ORA-12545 Posted on 2009-10-13 Oracle ora-12545 sqlplus Database Databases 3 Verified Solutions 14 Comments 5,237 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-18 First of all, i have Oracle 10g installed in my PC, so i'm just connecting to the db locally for educational purposes. I always logon as SCOTT. Ok, I have Oracle 10g already installed long time ago. I used to access it via SQL Developer, now i moved to new ora-12454: connect failed because target host or object does not exist place so the IP is changed, i can't connect with SQL Developer! Even though I can not connect to the Database via SQL Developer, i can connect to the database via SQL*Plus successfully. Also, I can connect as sysdba from SQL*Plus. The error i get in SQL Developer, "Socket is not connected". Here is my problem:- I downloaded TOAD, i put username as SCOTT and password 123456. In "Database" field there are: - EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA - ORCL In the white box at the left side, there is nothing. In "Connect Using" list, there are: - (Oracle Root) - OraDb10g_home1 I entered username as SCOTT and password as 123456. "Database" set to ORCL. "Connect Using" is OraDb10g_home1. sometimes it throws me following error. ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist But when I try to re-connect it get successfullt connected. Action: Ensure the ADDRESS parameters have been entered correctly; the most likely incorrect parameter is the node name. Ensure that the executable for the server exists (perhaps "oracle" is missing.) If the protocol is TCP/IP, edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file to change the host name to a numeric IP address and try again.
