to grant 'localhost' privileges to on the table to the user. See the 'GRANT' syntax documentation. Here's an example (from some C source). "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON %s.* TO '%s'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY '%s'"; That's the most common access problem with MySQL. Other than that, you might check that the user you have defined to create your instance has full privileges, else the user cannot grant privileges. Also, make sure the mysql service is started. Make sure you don't have a third party firewall or Internet security service turned on. Beyond that, there's several pages of the MySQL forum devoted to this: http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?11,9293,9609#msg-9609 Try reading that. share|improve this answer edited Feb 14 '14 at 6:54 Sathish D 2,9561628 answered Sep 23 '08 at 3:58 Chris 3,0141415 add a comment| up vote 40 down vote Got this error on Windows because my mysqld.exe wasn't running. Ran "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\mysqld" --install from the command line to add it to my services, ran services.msc (start -> run), found the MySQL service and started it. Didn't have to worry about it from there on out. share|improve this answer answered Oct 11 '11 at 4:18 ryanjones 3,12021820 1 its automatically stop just after i start service . –shuboy2014 Aug 6 at 14:25 add a comment| up vote 17 down vote To resolve this problem: go to the task manager select Services tab find MySql service Running That's all. share|improve thi

To enable remote connections like the one used by mysqlworkbench you will need to modify your /etc/my.cnf and change bind-address 127.0.0.1 to bind-address 0.0.0.0 or simply comment out the line completely. Once this is done, restart MySQL with the command service mysql restart and you should be able to make your connection. Reply Log In to Comment Have another answer? Share your knowledge. Translation patches Defect #11685 Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) Added by Giovanni Junior about 4 years ago. Updated over 3 years ago. Status:ClosedStart date:Priority:NormalDue http://www.redmine.org/issues/11685 date:Assignee:-% Done:0%Category:DocumentationTarget version:- Resolution:Invalid Affected version: Description I got the error "Can't https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlE4I-SlzRQ connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)" when trying to execute migrations on my old Redmine database. After lots of searching I found this page, who solved my problem: https://github.com/brianmario/mysql2/issues/157 The problem seems to be that Mysql2 adapter doesn't understand the hostname "localhost". To solve it, I connect to had to replace "localhost" with "127.0.0.1" in database.yml. I think the RedmineInstall guide should warn users to use "127.0.0.7" instead of "localhost" when using the Mysql2 adapter. My configuration:Windows 7 64 bitsMySQL 5.5 (or 5.1) 64 bitsMySQL Connector C 6.0.2 32 bitsRuby 1.9.3 32 bitsMysql2 gem, version 0.3.11 History #1 Updated by Etienne Massip about 4 years ago Category changed connect to mysql from Website (redmine.org) to Documentation Status changed from New to Closed Assignee deleted (Jean-Philippe Lang) Priority changed from High to Normal Resolution set to Invalid Actually the problem seems to be that the "localhost" entry has been removed from your hosts file, probably by MS Windows Defender. Sorry I close this issue as it is not a RM one, please reopen if you're absolutly sure that this is due to the mysql2 adapter unable to resolve localhost and provide a valid reference to the adapter issue. #2 Updated by Giovanni Junior about 4 years ago I didn't intend to point out a problem with Redmine itself. I just wanted to help you improve the documentation for users trying to install it, in order to keep the experience as painless as it had always been for me, and to prevent other users from wasting time as I did. Even if what I described is not a legitimate "issue" of the mysql2 adapter, I still think it could be mentioned in the section of RedmineInstall dedicated specifically to Windows: http://www.redmine.org/projects/redmine/wiki/Re
