To enable remote connections like the one used by mysqlworkbench you will need to modify your /etc/my.cnf and change bind-address 127.0.0.1 to bind-address 0.0.0.0 or simply comment out the line completely. Once this is done, restart MySQL with the command service mysql restart and you should be able to make your connection. Reply Log In to Comment Have another answer? Share your knowledge. From the cmd window, I run "mysqlshow -u root -p". It asked for a password, then returned this error: "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)" This is a bad indication of partially failed/successful installation. After http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10892689/cant-connect-to-mysql-server-on-localhost-10061-after-installation reading the page, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/windows-troubleshooting.html, it told me to find an error log (.err) in C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data. The directory exists but there is no log file. I have a feeling this is related to the tight security of Windows 7, especially when installing a Unix based software. And yes, I am the Administrator on my PC. Any help or suggestions is appreciated. And I can return a favor by answering Java and SQL query questions. mysql windows windows-7 share|improve this question asked Jun 5 '12 at 6:31 The Original Android 4,00531223 It more sounds like you supply an invalid username/password when trying to connect. –Cyclone Jun 5 '12 at 6:33 well, root as username is supplied by the installation so that should be valid. And I did not set a password for root, at least not yet, for ease of use for now. –The Original Android Jun 5 '12 at 6:43 1 Your are sure that the MySQL server process is actually running? –glglgl Jun 5 '12 at 8:17 3 From the documentation: (10061) indicates that the network connec

"\n"; $mysqli->close(); } ?> For security reasons, I've not provided the actual variable values. When I run this on my development system, I receive Connect Error (2003) Can't connect to MySQL server on 'myipaddress' (10061) My PHP is a bit rusty, can someone identify connect to mysql where my code is faulty? Note that dbuser has select, insert and update privileges on the database name set as the variable. Thanks, Sid Edit I made changes to my.cnf and restarted mysql. I now receive access denied for user 'dbuser'@'mycurrenthostname' (using password YES). When I use mysql -u dbuser -p from command line, I can login. I granted insert, update and select to dbuser with host '%' so that dbuser could connect from anywhere. I've read the MySQL Reference guide about this error, but am still stuck. Is there a problem with my code, now that my.cnf has been fixed? php mysqli share|improve this question edited Aug 20 '10 at 6:00 asked Aug 19 '10 at 5:00 SidC 1,43884295 are you sure permissions are setup that allow you to connect? –Galen Aug 19 '10 at 5:08 Yes, I granted permissions to dbuser and did a flush privileges afterwards. –SidC Aug 19 '10 at 5:33 my.cnf contains: #skip-networking #enable-named-pipes skip-innodb max-connections=30 bind-address=127.0.0.1 –SidC Aug 19 '10 at 5:39 1 bind-address should be set to the IP address of the network interface to which you are connecting. For example, if your MySQL server has a single network interface card (NIC), with an IP address of 192.168.1.200, then bind-address should be set to 192.168.1.200. You might also want to check if the server is receiving packets on th
