The easiest way to achieve this is Goto /bin/ Run mysqld (service) close the cmd prompt Run mysql.exe or the better way to do is add the location to PATH environment Variable Thanks share|improve this answer answered Aug 13 '13 at 5:05 debiansse 32728 2 My problem was that the mysql service wasn't running. I have two drives - C: for the OS and regular files, and an external drive E:. I http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17426052/error-2003-hy000-cant-connect-to-mysql-server-on-localhost-10061 installed XAMPP lite on E: (on the root), and its been giving me problems. Apache works well enough, but MySQL doesn't work. When I go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/, it gives me the following error: Error MySQL said: #2003 - Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed. Any ideas as to what could be the problem? I used the zip file for XAMPP lite, the 32 bit version. This is on Windows 7 Home premium. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2939510/xampp-on-windows-7-not-working-properly Thanks! xampp mysql-error-2003 share|improve this question edited Jul 13 '11 at 3:30 OMG Ponies 198k36356415 asked May 30 '10 at 16:53 404Error 28113 1 I think you should ask this on our sister site, the serverfault.com. This one is about programming (and the question doesn't look programming related), the other is about servers. –AndrejaKo May 30 '10 at 17:27 1 It is programming related in the sense that a lot of people use environments like Xampp to do local web development –Daniel Lopez Jul 29 '11 at 14:24 Error 2003 is defined here: webyog.com/faq/content/23/15/en/… –Man_k Aug 10 '12 at 10:44 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote This happened to me today, and it was because Dropbox.exe was using port 3306. If you run the Port-Check from XAMPP control panel, you will be able to see if there are any conflicting port issues. share|improve this answer answered Feb 24 '11 at 20:42 DominicF 514 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote You need to actually start the MySQL database server. Start the XAMPP Control Panel and click the "Start" button just to the right of where it says MySQL. (Or run the "mysql_start" batch file) share|improve this answer answered Jul 8 '10 at 8:50 user353297 546612 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote Please edit your config.inc.php file in phpmyadmin subfolder inside xampp's installation, and specify '127.0.0.1' (instead of any other value like 'localhos

Solved ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) Posted on 2012-11-11 MySQL Server 1 Verified Solution 12 Comments 5,820 Views Last Modified: 2012-11-18 Hi, There are heaps of issues on here with people not being able to connect to their mysql server on localhost, most issues seem to be due to the service not being started. However mine's a little different. Running mysql 5.0 & Windows Server 2003 When I go into the mysql\5.0\bin and type mysql and hit return I get the following error: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) However, when I open the MySQL Administrator and choose Tools \ MySQL Command Line Client it opens \mysql\5.0\bin\mysql.exe and I'm at a mysql prompt and can do what I want in there. I'm not sure what attributes are run when it's run from within the MySQL Administrator but I can connect to the MySQL server externally using ODBC but can't connect locally from my PHP file, which reports mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'user'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Like I said, if I use the same details to remote connect from my PC I get connected no problem. Any ideas where to start? 0 Question by:lee_murphy Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution bylee_murphy I figured out the problem, for some reason when I run MySQL without specifying a port it uses port 3309, but MySQL is listening on port 3306.
