Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111 in /mnt/www/phpfun/mq_orderby.php on line 34 This is my development machine, can't connect to server status 111 exchange so I don't have connection issues. This was working. Things I've tried: phpMyAdmin error 2003 (hy000): can't connect to mysql server on (61) works fine.If I point to another MySQL server, it works fine.I've tried referring to the MySQL server as error 1130 (hy000): host is not allowed to connect to this mysql server localhost, blix, and by IP address: 10.0.2.15. It's a really simple script too. PalaDolphin 2010-09-13 23:07:06 UTC #2 I'll try that. ebissi 2010-09-14 19:23:41 UTC #3 You can also disable Bind http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1420839/cant-connect-to-mysql-server-error-111 to Ip, so the MySQL server answer both LAN and WAN. Its important to configure the accounts allowed hosts too. Specially the admin account (root in my case). ebissi 2010-09-13 20:55:47 UTC #4 In the server configuration, look for "Bind to IP".(I use MySQL Workbench)In a fresh install here (Ubuntu) it's binded to 127.0.0.1 (localhost). To fix the problem bind to the https://www.sitepoint.com/community/t/mysql-system-error-111/52923 IP visible to the LAN or WAN.Mine is 192.168.0.1 (LAN) PalaDolphin 2010-03-17 22:35:20 UTC #5 Update: localhost works (only), but 10.0.2.15 doesn't work for MySQL in PHP. It DOES work in phpMyAdmin and the CLI: mysql -u root -p In CLI I can perform queries. PalaDolphin 2010-03-17 22:43:26 UTC #6 Oh, forgot. I cannot use localhost because I use a shared .ini file to get the database server from. It is shared between VirtualBox host OS and guest OS. The domain 'localhost' would cause PHP applications running on different OSes to cause each OS to look for it in a relative domain, their own. Since there's only one set of database files, there can only be one database server up and running at a time. For this reason, the domain must be an absolute one. PalaDolphin 2010-03-17 23:03:34 UTC #7 Update: I get an error: mysql -h10.0.2.15 -pERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '10.0.2.15' (111) But, mysql -p works. I checked my skip_networking and bind-address variables - everything is turned off: mysql> show variables like '%skip_networking%'; +-----------------+-------+ | Variable_name | Value | +-----------------+-------+ | skip_networking | OFF | +-----------------+-------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) mysql> show variables like '%bind%'; Empty set (0.00 sec) I have another server with absolutely the same config and it works great: sudo netstat -ntlup | grep mysql tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 2431/mysqld What can be the reason for this? How do I make mysql respond to remote connections? mysql share|improve this question asked Apr 4 '14 at 9:43 Temnovit 31241224 Note that the variable bind_address is only available since version 5.6 (bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=44355), so it will return an
