the top Remote MySQL connection fails (10060) up vote 7 down vote favorite 4 When I am trying to connect to a MySQL database from a remote computer I get a prompt saying: Connection Failed: [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't Connect to MySQL server on 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' (10060) I have created a user account in the MySQL Administrator and added a host to enable remote access, I have also made an aws mysql 10060 exception for my Windows Firewall on port 3306 but the connection still fails. What is the problem? Thanks! mysql remote-access odbc share|improve this question asked Apr 30 '10 at 12:41 migrated from stackoverflow.com Apr 30 '10 at 14:23 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. 1 Not a programming related question, but anyway, check if the remote computer is able to connect to any other service running on the same computer you're running the MySQL server. I doubt it is however. Very likely to be a NAT problem. –jweyrich Apr 30 '10 at 12:51 @jweyrich: You were very right, the ISP have blocked all ports but 21, 80 and 3389. –Anonymous May 1 '10 at 9:12 add a comment| 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote I suppose your mysql server is running on Windows...thus open a DOS window and type: netstat -an You should find a row like this: TCP 0.0.0.0:3306 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING This tell you that mysql server is running and listening on TCP port 3306. Another test you can do is to telnet (from another pc) to your mysql server: telnet ip_mysql_server 3306 This should open a telnet session: Connected to server_name. Esc

If you're getting error 10060, this means that you ARE NOT mysql cpanel ALLOWED to access the web server remotely. Usually we (I mean, I) access the mysql databases using php and this is on the SAME server. Thus we use 'localhost' to connect. But if http://serverfault.com/questions/137418/remote-mysql-connection-fails-10060 you were to for example access the same web database using a local machine running VB, the story is different. First, here's what you should NOT do. I'm saying this because I noticed some responses had these as action steps. So, 1. DON'T change any ports 2. DON'T close existing ports and reopen new ones as it may affect other apps. 3. DON'T disable any firewalls. http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?34,49742,239961 Now here's what you MUST do: 1. on your connection string, make sure that you're using the SERVER'S correct IP. On the other hand, you can use the domain name, and this is what I do. 2. The rest of the parameters are the same. I mean they're what you want or have set. 3. NOW the critical thing. First you've got to tell your web server that you need to accept remote connections. You can easily do this using the cpanel. When you're asked for the remote host name, type in % (the percentage sign) to mean ANY HOST. 4. Finally, you may have to tell the web server's firewall that you're making a remote connection from your machine. To do this, cpanel allows you to add your own IP into a 'white list'. In most cases, cpanel shows you a list of class C IPs and your one should be there. Select it. Save the settings. Now go into your app and run the program - eg: in VB. Should work just fine!
