Have you verified it's started? –jksloan Jul 2 '13 at 12:49 Using XAMP OR WAMP is much easier than mysql. –Foreever Aug 14 '13 at 6:26 add a comment| 11 Answers 11 active oldest votes up vote 30 down vote accepted You don't need a restart your windows. The easiest way to achieve this is Goto /bin/ Run mysqld (service) close the cmd prompt Run mysql.exe or the better way to do is add the location to PATH environment Variable Thanks share|improve this answer answered Aug 13 '13 at 5:05 debiansse 32728 2 My problem was that the mysql service wasn't running. There am getting Error Nr 2003. I tried it through the command prompt, through services in the control panel. But the problem is that the mysql service is not starting at all. Why it is not starting ? In case you cant start mysql service means you need to install mysql service. Steps for install mysql service Step 1: open command prompt and go to the mysql installed location (for example c:\Program Fiels\MYSQL\Mysql Server5.0\bin\) Step 2: mysql --install Step 3: start mysql service using the command NET START MYSQL command then connect mysql using username and password. share|improve this answer answered Dec 17 '14 at 10:29 Rama.K 415 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Assuming the service is already running and you still get this error connecting to the localhost using the mysql client, then make sure you have an entry for "localhost" in your hosts file. This was the case I experienced. share|improve this answer answered Feb 9 at 17:53 anony 1

In task manager, ApacheMonitor is running under processes and Apache is running under services. MySQL is listed under services, but is stopped. When I try to access MySQL via the command line I get the following error message: ERROR 2003 (HY000) Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) So it would seem I have installed/configured Apache/MySQL wrong. Could anyone please tell me what I should check for? e.g. is there a setting in one of the .ini files that I should change? P.S. when I first installed MySQL I could access it via the command line fine, but I still could
