From the cmd window, I run "mysqlshow -u root -p". It asked for a password, then returned this error: "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)" This is a bad indication of partially failed/successful installation. After reading the page, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/windows-troubleshooting.html, it told me to find an error log (.err) in C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data. The directory exists but there is no log file. I have a feeling this is related to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10892689/cant-connect-to-mysql-server-on-localhost-10061-after-installation the tight security of Windows 7, especially when installing a Unix based software. And yes, I am the Administrator on my PC. Any help or suggestions is appreciated. And I can return a favor by answering Java and SQL query questions. mysql windows windows-7 share|improve this question asked Jun 5 '12 at 6:31 The Original Android 4,01531223 It more sounds like you supply an invalid username/password when trying to connect. –Cyclone Jun 5 '12 at 6:33 well, root as username is supplied by the installation so that should be valid. And I did not set a password for root, at least not yet, for ease of use for now. –The Original Android Jun 5 '12 at 6:43 1 Your are sure that the MySQL server process is actually running? –glglgl Jun 5 '12 at 8:17 3 From the documentation: (10061) indicates that the network connection has been refused. You should check that there is a MySQL server running, that it has network connections enabled, and that the network port you specified is the one configured on the server. –Cyclone Jun 5 '12 at 13:08 2 You should try asking questions of this type in serverfault.com/faq or perhaps superuser.com/faq –Cyclone Jun 7 '12 at 22:23 | show 7 more comments 10 Answers 10 active old

To enable remote connections like the one used by mysqlworkbench you will need to modify your /etc/my.cnf and change bind-address 127.0.0.1 to bind-address 0.0.0.0 or simply comment out the line completely. Once this is done, restart MySQL with the command service mysql restart and you should be able to make your connection. Reply Log In to Comment Have another answer? Share your knowledge. guys, mySQL workbench gives me an Error 10061 everytime I try to connect to my remote mysql server. I entered the correct IP, correct password. The user I try to connect as has % as host option. How come it still doesn't work? I saw a popup in phpmyadmin stating that the host field is being ignored if a host-table is active. I did find a host table in the mysql database but it's empty. What can I do to fix it? Thank you. 2 Answers PRO miguelcastro2 Pro Student 5,416 Points miguelcastro2 miguelcastro2 Pro Student 5,416 Points about 2 years ago MySQL on default only listens to localhost as a security precaution. You might need to make sure MySQL is listening on your external IP interface: [mysqld] bind-address = 0.0.0.0 By setting the bind-address to 0.0.0.0 MySQL will now listen on all interfaces. Add this to the my.cnf file. Lars Wettmann 13,553 Points Lars Wettmann Lars Wettmann 13,553 Points about 2 years ago Thanks, Miquel! Worked perfectly on my virtual private server.
