Are you sure that your mysql installation is up and active, and accepting connections? –JohnP Jun 27 '12 at 18:23 | show 3 more comments 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote accepted HY000 is a very general ODBC-level error code, and 2003 is the MySQL-specific error code that means that the initial server connection failed. 4 is the error code from the failed OS-level call that the MySQL driver tried to make. (For example, on Linux you will see "(111)" when the connection was refused, because the connect() call failed with the ECONNREFUSED error code, which has a value of 111.) share|improve this answer edited Jun 27 '1

I tried to connect to remote server, but it doesn't work with the error. The message is "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'myserver' (4)". When I try to connect to another, it works well. And I can connect to remote server with command line client($mysql -h myserver -u root -p) and WB for windows, it works fine. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11231168/how-to-understand-cant-connect-mysql-error-messages But only trying to make connection to myserver with WB for osx, I have a problem. I think this is a kind of bugs, is there anybody can help me? How to repeat: i leave the message in the private comment. [19 Aug 2010 19:30] Constantine Kim MySQL WB version is 5.2.26 for OSX, and 5.2.26 for Windows. MySQL version : 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6 (Ubuntu) - remote [20 Aug 2010 9:20] Johannes Taxacher does it https://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=56126 work if you are using IP address instead of hostname to connect to your server-instance? thanks in advance [20 Aug 2010 9:39] Constantine Kim to Johannes Taxacher. I specified ip address instead of host name, but it doesn't work too. thanks to reply. [23 Aug 2010 4:50] Jonathon Coombes Can't repeat on Workbench 5.2.26 under Mac OS X 10.5.8 operating system. $ perror 4 OS error code 4: Interrupted system call This would usually suggest a firewall, perhaps max_connections issue or even a library corruption/mismatch issue as well. [14 Oct 2010 9:50] Valerii Kravchuk Please, check if the same problem still happens with a newer version, 5.2.29. [14 Oct 2010 10:01] Constantine Kim I've solved. the problem was the connection delayed. After disabling DNS hostname lookup in MySQL, it works well. thank you all! [28 Oct 2010 23:05] Alfredo Kojima Closing as it was a problem in user's environment. According connect to mysql to the documentation error code 4 is: OS error code 4: Interrupted system call At first I thought that maybe the issue is that the DB server has too many connections and fails because there are too much open files. But it seems not to be the case because: Too many open files has different error code (24). I've checked and during peak time the server had 497 files open (checked using lsof command) while the maximum is 1024. The TCP settings were already checked (see prior question). Any ideas what this can be or what should I check? apache-2.2 ubuntu mysql php amazon-ec2 share|improve this question asked May 5 '10 at 13:00 arikfr 209315 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Check your ifconfig stats, it could be a packet drop or something like that, I already seen it. share|improve this answer answered May 5 '10 at 14:11 user42198 391 > RX packets:250356058 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 > TX packets:195826222 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 > collisions:0 txqu
backup or restore run succeeds. If the run fails for any reason, the return code is set to the OS error code. If mysqlbackup fails, because an operating system call fails, mysqlbackup usually displays the operating systems error code along with a detailed error message. On Linux and other Unix-like systems, the operating system error codes are POSIX error codes. Those POSIX error codes that are possible with mysqlbackup are shown in Table 6.1, “OS Errors for Linux and other Unix-Like Systems”. A complete list of all POSIX errors is available in the file /usr/include/errno.h on your system.
