PRINT • NEXT >> • "Could not save because of a disk error" by Budrick21 on Jan 12, 2004 at 7:31:31 pm I have been getting this error message lately. I don't think it's a disk problem because no other could not complete your request because of a disk error programs have any problems. Doing a "Save for Web" works fine. It's an intermittent photoshop disk error when saving problem. Anyone have any insights? Save for web could be working, because it requires less disk spcae to save and does nto encounter the bad blocks. could not save because the disk is not available photoshop Phothsop uses alot of hard disk space for virtual memory, so this is why other programs might not act funny. Try to also throw out some old fiules you donto use to free up some of the space on disk. IF you stll have teh problem try yo just make a new docunment and save it in various formats,so we can get some more symptoms knowing which or if does nto like

to save in any format except using save for web. Also try to reset your Phtohsop Prefs by holding down shift Alt Ctrl[shift option command] right after clicking to boot Photoshop.Return to posts index•Re: "Could not save because of a disk error"by Budrick21 on Jan 14, 2004 at 6:35:00 pmThanks for the response. It shouldn't be a matter of disk space, since this a relatively new G5 with 128GB of space. The FW drive I save to as a backup has less than 1GB. Also, it seems to be the source file that's the problem. I can't save any version - No psd, no jpg, no pct, nothing. Can't renumber, can't rename. Someone else mentioned this a while back, to no a avail, so I was wondering whether someone had come up with an explanation or a fix since then. I can always repair permissions, I suppose.Return to posts index•Re: "Could not save because of a disk error"by Mike Gondek on Jan 14, 2004 at 6:59:46 pmSo it is just that one file, that narrows the possibilities. Save for web strips out a few things: paths, preview icon, channels, makes it RGB. So try as a test deleting each one of those things manually and saving your file. If that still does nto work

Was working on a file that I chaged from RGB to CMYK without flattening. Disk errors are actually not a Photoshop problem... but they are a problem If the error said "Disk Error" that means any number of things: * The disk is full * could not Part of the file was written over a corrupt block * Something interrupted the flow of data * The recipient disk speed is too variable or slow (as in Zip Disk) This error really has nothing to do with Photoshop. I just installed a 1.5terabyte drive and it continues to tell me it cannot initialize because the scratch disk are full. It runs perfect on a 300gig, 200gig and 120gig hard drive. Hope this helps someone having SCRATCH DISK ERRORS on newer larger hard drives. Posted by: rudyt | 2010.04.06 at 17:32 I had the same problem. I couldn't intialize because there was not enough RAM. Having 12 gigs of RAM I knew this wasn't the case. I had three versions of Photoshop installed (4.0, 5.5 and 6). I uninstalled 5.5 and now it works fine. Thanks to the poster above.
