At first it showed when I tried to start PS for the first time after a clean install on a new computer I managed to get past it by running PS as admin and changing the scratch disk to D. But now I noticed that when I try to copy a http://superuser.com/questions/520748/could-not-open-a-scratch-file-because-the-file-is-locked path from illustrator into Photoshop as either a smart object or as pixels I get this error again. I haven't seen it again other then that but I just started using PS in this setup so I am yet to explore all the functions and whether they are working correctly or not. When ran as an administrator the illustrator->PS transfer works fine but I don't want to run PS as admin all the time. Has anyone found a solution for this? I already tried playing with the permissions but it didn't help. ssd adobe-photoshop share|improve this question edited Dec 13 '13 at 18:56 Community♦ 1 asked Dec 18 '12 at 1:01 Jake 146114 I'm in the same exact situation (SSD, hardlinks to D etc etc). Any luck? Please take a minute to come back and answer your own question if you have resolved this issue. –Tom Auger Jan 4 '13 at 18:07 I found a solution for this in the end but it was a few weeks ago so unfortunately I do not remember what were the steps I took. but there's certainly a solution because it worked perfectly ever since. I believe in the end it had something to do with setting the permissions on either the C or D drive. I wish I could offer some more information. –Jake Jan 5 '13 at 17:21 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 11 down vote TLDR; Launch Photoshop with CTRL + Alt held down to invoke Scratch Disk selector,

Then Photoshop quits. The only way I've found to get around this is by deleting the user profile and recreating it. That seems to fix the problem. I did this yesterday for a user, but today the problem has occurred again. Uninstalling and reinstall CS4 does not help, neither does repairing permissions. What I do is move the user data to another partition, delete the account, then have them log back in, and move everything back over except the contents of their library folder. I do move back their \~/Library/AppSupport/Firefox and \~/Library/Safari folders though. After this Photoshop works a charm. So it's something in the library, but the usual culprits (preferences, app support, caches) don't seem to be causing it. Has anyone seen this before? What is the resolution, if any? 6 SOLVED Posted: 12/6/12 at 1:54 PM by stevewood I've seen this when I have the user folder sitting on another partition. The fix has been to startup Photoshop holding the Command and Option keys to get the Scratch Disk Preference window. Once I had that window up, I believe I set the first scratch disk to Macintosh HD instead of "Startup". After doing that, I haven't had a problem on those machines.
