Both partitions are set up to be marginally larger than my internal could not open target disk for repartitioning HD. To do this, I boot to one of the current clones. Could Not Validate Source - Invalid Argument
till now, it has been working OK. However I am having troubles backing up now. When I ran the restore process to create the clone, it was failing with "Operation not permitted", about half an hour into the copying process. Thishappened I think three times. So I ran Disk Utility / First Aid on the source disk. The disk verified OK, but did come up with one file permission could not validate source error 254 error, which it repaired (though this is puzzling in itself, I would have thought file permissions would be ignored in cloning, since it does a block copy)? DiskUtility and Disk Warrior now both report the internal drive to be perfectly OK.(they also give the empty firewire partition a clean bill of health). Anyway,my subsequent attempt to clone failed twice in a different way: Restore Failure An error (5) occurred while copying. (Input/Output error).Any suggestions on what this might mean? Bad firewire controller? Bad sectors on the disk? In either case, is there any way to get a more informativediagnostic? 1.33GHz G4 Powerbook, Mac OS X (10.4.7), Toshiba 60GB internal, Sarotech 120GB firewire, Sarotech 300GB firewire Posted on Sep 3, 2006 5:54 PM I have this question too by Dr. Smoke,Solvedanswer Dr. Smoke Level 9 (56,585 points) A: You wrote: "...finding out about Troubleshooting OS/X, of which I wasn't previously aware. For anyone else having this problem you need to reboot your mac and press cmd+r when booting up. Then go into utilities > terminal and type the following commands: csrutil disable reboot and everything will work. This is a result of System Integrity Protection. The command does not work in the normal mode unfortunately. –Alexander Kachkaev Jan 27 at 20:47 3 @AlexanderKachkaev Yep, that's what I did. have been scouring the net to find a remedy to my problem. I have mac os 10.4.11. I have a zipped file (final cut pro) that i am trying to open and when http://mac.bigresource.com/OS-X-Unable-to-Unarchive-Error-1-Operation-not-Permitted--pGvfIugNd.html I try to open it i get a "unable to unarchive (error 1 - operation not http://osxdaily.com/2015/01/19/fix-os-x-install-errors-cant-be-verified-error-occurred-preparing-mac/ permitted)" message. I followed the guidelines from the old thread for the other personIi repaired permissions but when I tried to download onyx it told me the the onyx version needs a higher OS (10.5 I beleive) than I have and other efforts to find the onyx for my mac have failed. I have also downloaded x slimmer and Xserve raid driver could not for people that use final cut pro. attempted installation of OS X El Capitan or OS X Yosemite are the "This copy of the Install OS X El Capitan application can’t be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading" error, or a "This copy of the Install OS X Yosemite application can’t be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading" message, or a more vague "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running again" error message. Sometimes these can be resolved by simply rebooting and trying to reinstall OS X again (or re-downloading the OS X installer if it was damaged), but if the error messages are persistent, then you may find that modifying the system date of the Mac can be the resolution. It's possible to encounter these errors during basically any type of installation attempt in OS X El Capitan or OS X Yosemite, ranging from the standard App Store update, using Internet Recovery, to clean installs, and using a bootable installer volume on a target Mac. If you run into either error message while trying to update or install OS X while from an active OS X boot (say, a standard upgrade from the App Store), you can typically resolve the problem simply by setting the Date & Time on the Mac to be determined automatically. To do this, go to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Date & Time, and be sure the "Set date and time automatically" option is checked: That method requires the Mac to have active internet access, however. If you're on a computer without internet access, or if you encounter the problem during an alternative OS X installation method and thus can't access System Preferences, turning to the Terminal to set the date is the next option. To determine if the Terminal date trick can fix those error message
