I will do as you say, but can't think how the preferences could be causing the problem. I have 1gb of RAM, so I'm not thinking that that's the problem. Chris M Law Guest Reply With Quote July 3rd,03:42 PM #4 Re: "Could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error." I've done a search for the exact error message, but no other solutions other than the ones you guys have suggested. I'm off to install the Adobe printer driver. Will report back! Possible, but the problem is a new download will not install. ID. Awe Guest Reply With Quote July 3rd,04:32 PM #6 Re: "Could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error." Sorry.I assume my version of PS CC is the latest as I pay an annual fee to Adobe to keep my PS and LR updated. New XP SP2 machine, new CS install. Ran OK at first, then started giving me this error intermittently on startup. I think it hits right at the "Building TWAIN drivers" message, but it might be the one right after that. Anybody know what that one is? It goes by too quickly to see. I don't think it's TWAIN because I haven't installed a scanner or camera on this machine yet.Anyway, now it's up to giving me this error about 7 out of 8 times when I try to start. Then 1 out of 8 times or so, it starts OK. I have tried rebooting, deleting that doc prefs file, renaming the prefs files, renaming the entire prefs folder, and doing a complete reinstall of PSCS.Any ideas? Bad RAM module? In reply to Nill Toulme • Oct 4, 2004 I had the same problem and turns out it was being caused by setting up some sound enhancing software on my Sony notebook. I ended up doing a system restore to before the sound enhancer but after CS and CS opens fine now... chasNill Toulme wrote:This is driving me nuts. New XP SP2 machine, new CS install.
