realized was that this was the result of using the marque tool earlier and somehow improperly deselecting. If you happen to run into this problem, all you need to do is grab your marque tool (M) and select an area then delect. Or, you can go up to the Select menu, and click "deselect." This solved the quirky little error for me. Let me know if it works for you too! photoshoptip About Painted Digital Painted Digital is Matt Reed. I'm getting "Could not nudge the data because of a http://www.designtalkboard.com/tips/photoshop/layers-selected.php program error" and I cannot do anything with that whole group or a ceratin text layer, unless I manually edit each and every affected text layer, so it's re-rendered. Then it works for a while and everything repeats. PS starts to be unusable for me, because it's very hard to work with this. Currently I'm running Lenovo ThinkPad, but I had this problem on two different PCs so further spec is probably unimportant. I'm using PS for many many years and problems started since CC was released. It's cross all of my project not just particular one. I can make a quick video if needed. could not use the tool or complete your request because no layers are selected.
Despite the message meaning exactly what is says, this can still be a somewhat confusing situation to be in. When working, one might naturally assume that at least one layer would be selected. In fact, variations of this error can occur when there are no layers at all selected in the layers palette. For example, if no areas are selected (see image on right) the warning message 'could not complete your request because no layers are selected' may occur when simply making a selection and clicking with the cursor within the selection area. If the user tries to use the clone stamp tool without any layers selected, they may get the error message 'could not use the clone stamp tool because no layers are selected'. Similar messages will occur with other Photoshop editing tools. Interestingly, in Photoshop CS4, when trying to nudge a selection with the keyboard arrows, without having any layers selected, we received the following message: 'could not nudge the selection because of a program error'. Regardless of this, the solution was to ensure that a layer was selected before attempting to carry out any photo-editing actions.
