Once of my friend sql server error 17058 contacted me and when I asked for ERRORLOG, he informed that there is no error: 17058, severity: 16 state: 1 ERRORLOG file and SQL is not getting started. I suggested him that we should analyze event log for further details, after interestingly, startup parameters in sql server we found the following details in the event 17058 about initerrlog: Could not Open Error Log File.Log Name: Application Source: MSSQLSERVER Event ID: 17058 Task Category: Server Level: Error Description: initerrlog: Could not open error log file http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/112623/event-17058-initerrlog-could-not-open-error-log-file-sql-server ". If you face the same error again, try to change highly privileged service account like "Local System".After giving permission, we were able to start the SQL Service. Installed SQL Server 2008 using local user accounts. https://www.simple-talk.com/sql/backup-and-recovery/the-sql-server-instance-that-will-not-start/ While installing AX 2012, it fails because VPC machine is not in domain. So I ran dcpromo to install domain controller, and created a domain. With this installation and configuration, could not restarted the machine and then logged on as domain administrator. Noticed that SQL Services (MSSQLServer) is stopped. SQL Server Agent is stopped. Surely because earlier these were installed using local service account user. And now since those users are now part of CORP domain so authentication permission is invalid. I changed the logon permission but still it was not starting.
