Posted 5 years ago # Pamela Member Hello, I was thinking you have seen this error could not open socket zend mail before and could maybe point me in the right direction. I'm getting a "could not open socket" error when I use reCaptcha on my eMember registration page. Happens of course when trying to register a new member. The reCaptcha is set up via the setting emember. Things work fine without reCaptcha. It is at http://booksbypam.com/bookstore/freebies/registration. I'm using version 7.0.8 of eMember and 5.9.4 of eStore (plus alot of other fabulous plugins I bought from you last week). I'm using WP 3.2.1. I haven't modified any plug in code. I'm not on Remix yet as I haven't taken the time to set up that theme. I'm using Atahualpa. I'm on Linux shared hosting. Any help is greatly appreciated. Best, Pam Posted 5 years ago # admin Key Master That means that your server is having trouble connecting to Google's recpatcha API. The following two are the most probable causes: - A firewall on your server is blocking any outgoing connection request. - Your server's DNS cannot resolve the following URL (this is the URL the recaptcha needs to connect in order to verify) http://www.google.com/recaptcha/api Posted 5 years ago # Pamela Member Hey Admin, I wa

What Does Could Not Open Socket Mean
auto-migrated Priority-Medium Type-Defect Milestone No milestone Assignees No one assigned 1 participant GoogleCodeExporter commented Aug 11, 2015 What steps will reproduce the problem? 1. 2. 3. What is the http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/forum/topic/registration-form-can-not-open-socket expected output? What do you see instead? The expected action is for the fsockopen (line 80) to connect, and not return false. It is currently returning false because it can't seem to connect to domain names, only IP addresses, on my development server. Obviously this is a problem I need to address as it does it for https://github.com/queueit/recaptcha/issues/26 other things I use fsockopen for. To be fair though the library should accomodate for this, especially as I am not using an obscure setup, it's a typical one if you follow any LAMP guide for Fedora 9 to be honest. I see the error message: Could not open socket. It runs die to produce this error message, so if for whatever reason the RECAPTCHA_VERIFY_SERVER dns does not resolve, the end user doesn't have a clue what has gone wrong, all the form data they have submitted is lost. It should fail gracefully, and allow the form submission to continue without verifying the captcha input. What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? recaptchalib.php (v1.1.0) Currently the latest stable release. Fedora 9 (32bit) Apache 2.2.9/PHP 5.2.6 (installed using yum from official fedora repos) Please provide any additional information below. // To fix the problem, find line 40 in recpatchalib.php and replace: define("RECAPTCHA_VERIFY_SERVER", "api-verify.recaptcha.net"); // With this: define("RECAPTCHA_VERIFY_SERVER", gethostbyname('api-verify.recaptcha.net')); Original issue reported on code.google.com by l...@fgiltd

The error message doesn't reveal much, just 'Could not open socket error' I think I will have to post some php files on here. 0 LVL 12 Overall: Level 12 PHP 1 Message Expert Comment by:Patricia Siu-Lai Ho2012-04-07 Hi Cosmic_Cake, Your form is in http://www.overheardindublin.com/post-a-story/ Please check the file is right path and file in form action of your script
