Windows Could Not Start The Windows Update Service On Local Computer The Parameter Is Incorrect
find the file specified I am trying to update my system with windows update, but it doesnt' work.. I have narrowed it down to BITS not starting.. When I open services and try to start it manually, I get the error "Windows could not start the BITS service on LOCAL COMPUTER. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified" I have tried the Microsoft FixIt and the Fix Windows windows could not start the mysql service on local computer error 2 Update utility from TheWindowsClub.. From another post, I also noticed the folder at \users\all users\application data\microsoft\network\download is set to 'read only'.. I can uncheck that, but it stays as read only.. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.. Is this fixable? I'd like to update! will not start SUS service won't start on srv or client #1 error 2 the system cannot find the file specified windows service mpython Newbie Group: New Members Posts: 2 Joined: 21-Jan-04 Posted 21 Jan 2004, 11:14 I have SUS installed on error 2 the system cannot find the file specified windows 7 the AD Domain Controller and it ran OK prior to 10/7/03 according to logs on client machines. Sometime since then (I don't know of any change that would have affected it) http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/249523-bits-error-2-system-cannot-find-file-specified.html the service "Software Updates" will not start on the SUS server nor the client machines. On the client machines, the message window says that "The Automatic Updates service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Preformance Logs and Alerts service." On the SUS server the message window says "Could not http://www.wsus.info/index.php?showtopic=1441 start the Automatic Updates service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or and internal service error. ...." I've checked all GP Objects and they appear OK. On client machines, the Automatic Updates window is greyed out. When I went to the Group Policy and navigated to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services and checked on Automatic Update service security I found that full control was not granted to System and Administrators. After I changed these settings and forced replication to client machines with gpupdate, the Automatic Update service would start and seems now to work fine. I am at a loss as to how the security settings in System Services for this was changed. 0 Back to top of the page up there

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified I get the same error message when trying to start Background Intelligent Transfer Service. I believe both of these services have been hosed by viruses that have now been removed. I managed to do a manual update to SP3 but this has not resolved the problem. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx 2. Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan (only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm 3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested logs in an appropriate forum, not here. your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now They both have Win 7 SP1, plus many updates afterwards. I try to run Windows Update and it says that "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I've done that. I've restarted in clean mode also, no change. No firewall is on, AV is Trend Micro, but I've turned that off and nothing changes. No proxy server in the mix. Time/date is correct. When I try to manually start the service I get the error "Windows could not start the Windows Update service on the Local Computer. Error 0x80073b01: 0x80073b01". Ran MalwareBytes, and didn't find anything. Ran virus scan and didn't find anything. Can't see anything installed that would cause any issues on either computers. It has to be a virus that jacked up something and was removed, or some Windows Update that has screwed something up. Lastly, I've ran SFC /Scannow and it did find some things and "fix" them, but that always seems to find things and fix them, but not really help anything I see. I am at my wits end. Any help? If you are lucky and contained the infection before it did too much damage you might check to see if BITS and WU are running. If not, you can opt to attempt a repair of those services. Or you might decide to wipe and re-install. (Personally, given the type of damage some of these malware infections can cause, I might go for a re-image - since I keep mostly current images of all my clients workstations.) There is a MS Fixit tool: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update It's worked for me on two cases, failed on a few others. ymmv . . . 0 Thai Pepper OP Rambler Apr 14, 2013 at 11:27
