Though, DHCP client service should be running. Does the nic have "automaically configure" for both IP and DNS? theefool, Nov 24, 2006 #2 b0ardpunk Private E-2 The problem is that the DHCP client can't start. When i configure the nic for automatic the computer can't get an ip address. However when i put one in it says I'm connected and it shows packet transfers but I can't access any websites or use email or use the internet in anyway. I can't even ping through the command prompt. b0ardpunk, Nov 24, 2006 #3 Corporal Punishment Administrator Staff Member Are you logging in as admin when trying to start and stop the services? Not doing so could cause that sort of problem. Instead of automatic, did you try manual in the tcp/ip properties? Go to one of the other machine that work... Type IPCONFIG /ALL in a dos prompt and then type in whatever the dns server should be in that machine that is giving you issues, tcp/ip properties. Not really a fix, but a work around that should work. Corporal Punishment, Nov 24, 2006 #4 RickM Private First Class I am not an expert on the DHCP client server. But I dont

I used to be able to connect to the internet before with no problems. 2 wks ago, the Wireless connection started showing "LIMITED CONNECTIVITY", though, it can see all the wifi networks available in the area. Other computers and wifi enabled devices can all connect easily to the same network. I've tried the following solutions(from the forums) already: -re-installing drivers, disabling-enabling network adapters -made sure could not start the passwords are correct -disabling firewalls -turning on-off (5mins) the router +PC -removing and reloading the network -scanned software/hardware for problems thru built in "vaio care" (indicated that everything is running normally) I also tried to run the Network Diagnostics but this error msg always appear= "The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running."- even if i run it as an administrator.. Checked the Local Services and found out that DHCP Client is not running- Tried starting it several times but it won't start and this error msg always appear "Windows could not start the DHCP CLient service on local Comp. Error 5: Access is denied." I'd appreciate any help/assistance/idea from anyone. Been trying to sort this one out for 4 days now, and still found no solution. Thanks for taking time in reading this. Solved Services - DHCP Client not starting Posted on 2012-11-17 Windows XP 4 Verified Solutions 15 Comments 920 Views Last Modified: 2012-11-19 It is Windows XP recovered after virus attack. The system is clean now and runs fast. Several “installation repair” were done and between them I used also “registry repair/clean” programs. No matter if it is set to automatic start (System) or Manual start, the DHCP Client service on local machine does not start. On Manual start gives the error 1053 now. It was also svchost.exe error before. I checked the dependences as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915162 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-networking/dhcp-client-wont-start-due-to-dependency/91d41140-663f-4f58-9a04-9eaab2c40884 And tried also: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-networking/acquiring-network-address-issue/cc08d289-4ede-4fca-bd7c-bf63daf6b8ad Still, DHCP attempt to start but never starts. I expect registry having wrong data inside, but I compare some keys (for dhcp and tcpip) with a identical machine and identical operating system. No results.
