Generally speaking, Net Logon service has 2 dependency services (Server and Workstation). As you said, your users are experiencing share folder and printer issues. This leads me to believe that the issue might be caused by server service failure. According to the error message, I have found the following KB article about Server Service Failure. Server Service Fails with System Error 8 or System Error 234 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/175529 In addition, there are some other KBs that describe Net logon failure. The Net logon service does not start and event IDs 2114 and 7024 are logged in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows 2000 Server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/269375 Netlogon Service Does Not Start, Event Viewer Records Events 2114 and 7024 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284850 Please try the above KB's resolutions and let me know the result. What are the names of the services you are dealing with? Double click the service - go to the "Dependencies" tab - Check the service names list under "This service depends on the following system components" and then make sure that all the services listed there are already started. For example, if you're trying to start a service which has dependency on "Windows firewall" service, you need to first make sure Windows firewall service is STARTED. Error 1068 up vote 1 down vote favorite 1 I am trying to start the Server service and the Computer Browser service at boot. I believe the Computer Browser service relies on the server service to be running. When I attempt to start either service it gives me the error: "Windows could not start the Server service could not start on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start." I am attempting to make this computer discoverable as well as turn on file and printer sharing on its workgroup. I successfully started these services: o DHCP Client o DNS Client o Network Connections o Network Location Awareness o Remote Procedure Call (RPC) o TCP/IP Netbios helper o Workstation Any assistance? Solved Error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start Posted on 2004-08-04 Windows OS 1 Verified Solution 13 Comments 137,595 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-28 I have several services on my server that when I attempt to start I get an error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start. Nothing I know of has changed since yesterday when everything was working fine and today when nothing works. The only issue I know of is this morning when I came in the server was locked up and I had to use task manager to close several programs. After I closed the programs I rebooted the server and this problem started happening. The services that won't start are: Alerter Backup Exec Agent Browser Backup Exec Job Engine Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers Backup Exec Server Computer Browser Directory Replicator Messenger NetLogon Remote Procedure Cal(RPC| locator TCP/IP Netbios Helper Finally trying to start Workstation gives me an error 0002 the file specified can not be found. What could be giving me all of these errors? 0 Question by:thetool Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 7 Best Solution bywesbird There is the following article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;248057 which describes how to reinstall the workstation service. MS recommend this as the last resort before a rebuild. I know this sounds really obvious so please don't be offended, but when did you last check the partition free space? Backup exec generates log files that could be filling up your partitions. So could antivirus updates etc. Event logs would be very useful if it's not the obvious. 0 LVL 4 Overall: Level 4 Message Author Comment by:thetool
