SUS 1 - Troubleshooting SUS Server issues View New Content Page 1 of 1 You cannot start a new topic This topic is locked Software Updates service will not start SUS service won't start on srv or windows could not start the windows update service on local computer error 1053 client #1 mpython Newbie Group: New Members Posts: 2 Joined: 21-Jan-04 Posted 21 Jan error 2 the system cannot find the file specified windows service 2004, 11:14 I have SUS installed on the AD Domain Controller and it ran OK prior to 10/7/03 according to logs on error 2 the system cannot find the file specified windows 7 client machines. Sometime since then (I don't know of any change that would have affected it) the service "Software Updates" will not start on the SUS server nor the client machines. On the client machines, the message https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/896224 window says that "The Automatic Updates service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Preformance Logs and Alerts service." On the SUS server the message window says "Could not start the Automatic Updates service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or and internal service error. ...." I've checked all GP http://www.wsus.info/index.php?showtopic=1441 Objects and they appear OK. On client machines, the Automatic Updates window is greyed out. When I went to the Group Policy and navigated to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\System Services and checked on Automatic Update service security I found that full control was not granted to System and Administrators. After I changed these settings and forced replication to client machines with gpupdate, the Automatic Update service would start and seems now to work fine. I am at a loss as to how the security settings in System Services for this was changed. 0 Back to top of the page up there ^ MultiQuote Reply #3 Bunce Advanced Member Group: Regular Members Posts: 1491 Joined: 11-Sep-03 Posted 21 Jan 2004, 16:37 Good work. Very few people go to that level of troubleshooting to fix the problem. 0 Back to top of the page up there ^ MultiQuote Reply Search Topic Forum Home WSUS & Patch Management |-- WSUS 3 Server |-- Client issues |-- Utilitie

Windows 7: BITS Error 2: The System cannot find the file specified Page 1 of 6 1 23 > Last » 28 Aug 2012 #1 3DPiper Windows 7 92 posts BITS Error 2: The System cannot find the file specified I am trying to update my system with windows update, but it doesnt' work.. I have narrowed it down to BITS not starting.. When I open services and try to start it manually, I get the error "Windows could not start the BITS service on LOCAL COMPUTER. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified" I have tried the Microsoft FixIt and the Fix Windows Update utility from TheWindowsClub.. From another post, I also noticed the folder at \users\all users\application data\microsoft\network\download is set to 'read only'.. I can uncheck that, but it stays as read only.. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.. Is this fixable? I'd like to update! If not, then a repair install is the way to go. A little history on your problem would help us decide how complex this is likely to get. Have you had malware problems recently?
