As you will see from the following. I have Windows SBS 2003 Standard Edition with SP2 loaded. I needed https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/841576 to reinstall Intranet / Sharepoint. In order to do so, I needed to uninstall IIS. I uninstalled IIS, reinstalled IIS and then successfully installed Intranet. Echange 2003 then broke with the following error "Could not start the Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine Service on Local Computer. Error 1083: The executable program that this service is configured to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/9b7a6406-13dd-453d-bd2a-2dbcd0f51e91/ms-exchange-routing-engine-can-not-start-after-iis-reinstall?forum=exchangesvravailabilityandisasterrecoverylegacy run in does not implement the service." From reading other articles I believe the Metabase is corrupt. I have a full Windows Backup from yesterday however I do not specifically do an MMC backup. Is there a way to recover Exchange without having to reinstall Exchange? I do not know how to reconfigure Exchange (was done by another person when server purchased). Can you resinstall Exchange and then restore Exchange data from an Exchange backup. Please help. I am looking for the most simple recovery process. Thank-you so much. Since this is SBS, you may want to also ask there as things can sometimes work differently as far as reinstalling. http://social.technet.microsoft.c

We receive the error message "Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified". In the System Event Log, we have EventID 7023 - "The Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service terminated with the following error: The system cannot find the path specified". We re-installed Microsoft Exchange 2003 and Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2 with the /disasterrecovery tag, but the Routing Engine still will not start. We made sure "RESVC" is listed in DispatchEntries for HKLM_System_CurrentControlSet_Services_InetInfo_Parameters. We also ran Windows Updates to make sure all updates have been applied to the Server. What else is there to check to get the Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine to start? The Server is running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2. 0 Question by:David_XF Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 16 Best Solution byRaheem05 If you remove IIS you have to reinstall exchange I dont think the DR switch will cut it Please read the following guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320202 U

I have followed TechNet's guide and have used the Windows 2003 Server CDs to reinstall Exchange using the /disasterrecovery setting, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. windows-server-2003 exchange-2003 share|improve this question asked Nov 23 '09 at 22:03 Brett Rigby 212212 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted the exchange routing engine depends on the iis admin service. is the iis admin service running? are there any error messages when you manually try to start the exchange routing engine service? are there any events in the event log related to the routing engine? have you recently made changes to or had problems with iis on the server? are you able to start the imap or pop3 services? share|improve this answer answered Nov 24 '09 at 1:13 joeqwerty 83.4k246120 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Are you getting any particular error message?
