New Topic Advanced Search Could not start the service MySQL51. Posted by: Rahul rahul () Date: July 10, 2009 04:07AM Hi, I tried to install both MySQL 5.1.36 and 5.1.34 in a Windows 2003 64 bit system (with innodb). But during installation in the 'MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard' final page, 'Start Service' failed with the error 'The service could not be started'. But acutally the MySQL service is started, I can verify that by going to the 'services.msc'. Note: Prepare configuration and Write Configuration file get success during installation in the wizard. I have remove instance and uninstalled MySQL, and remove the MySQL directories and data dir .. restart system and try install again freshly.. I have tried these things several times but still not able to work with that. I have followed several links and those have not help. for eg: http://www.swizzling.org/2009/04/01/mysql-51-installer-could-not-start-service/ When I try the msi file via, msiexec.exe /i and redirect the log file no error is there. Here, I have attached my 5.1.34 my.ini file for your reference, _________________________________________________________________ # MySQL Server Instance Configuration File # ---------------------------------------------------------------------- # Generated by the MySQL Server Instance Configuration Wizard # # # Installation Instructions # ---------------------------------------------------------------------- # # On Linux you can copy this file to /etc/my.cnf to set global options, # mysql-data-dir/my.cnf to set server-specific options # (@localstatedir@ for this installation) or to # ~/.my.cnf to set user-specific options. # # On Windows you should keep this file in the installation directory # of your server (e.g. C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server X.Y). Windows People often checks MySQL's download section and when they notice that there is new version of MySQL released they just can't wait for a second https://ushastry.blogspot.com/2009/07/cannot-create-windows-service-for.html & starts downloading it so that they can install it on their http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15993089/start-mysql-server-as-a-service-win-8 windows box for testing purpose. Ok fine, download is completed its time to install it. Couple of successful "NEXT" and In the last step they encounter a error message such as "Cannot create Windows service for MySQL.Error:0" We are so intelligent ppl that we don't want to take any could not help from our colleague.. And what we do is we just delete the directory in which new installation has been done & starts the installation wizard one-more time in the hope that this time we gonna install it. Again the result is same "Cannot create Windows service for MySQL.Error:0" So why are we getting error that too at the last step? could not start one common thought is "there must be something wrong or some sort of bug in the new release" How to resolve this error? The primary reason for this error is that you haven't properly uninstalled the previously installed MySQL server & in the installation wizard last step was to create the service with the name "MySQL" and which has the same name as that of the existing service (default is "MySQL"). Solution for this error is to first stop the service if it is running and then remove the service. C:\>NET STOP MYSQL The MySQL service is stopping. The MySQL service was stopped successfully. Once the service is stopped, it can be removed with the SC utility: C:\>SC DELETE MYSQL [SC] DeleteService SUCCESS With the previous service stopped and removed, you can now run the MySQL Configuration Wizard again to configure and start the new MySQL service. Actually i tried this solution, but i am getting access denied in command prompt if i type the sc delete command

I am still in the installation / configuration process. I would like to create a new database. So, on the workbench's welcome screen, I have selected New Server Instance- Register a new Server instance to manage. In order to do this, I have went through following configuration steps: Specify localhost as server host, Give it the username and password I am using. It then tests a database connection, and, in the next step, asks me to Select the Service to manage from the list below. It will also help find the configuration file. However, the list of possible Services is empty and if I click [next], it says Error: In Order to manage a MySQL Service it must be installed as a Service. The wizard can not find any MySQL Service at the target machine, so the Server instance cannot be started. I think that I have to somehow start the MySQL Service, as it might already been installed when I had installed the whole MySQL Toolset. So: How would I start this MySQL Service under Windows 8? Some things I've tried: The Manual says to try: C:\> "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld" in order to install it as a Service. Yet, nothing happens and I get the following (some verbose [Note]s were removed): 2013-04-13 23:44:22 0 [Warning] TIMESTAMP with implicit DEFAULT value is depreca ted. Please use --explicit_defaults_for_timestamp server option (see documentati on for more details). 2013-04-13 23:44:22 2592 [Warning] Can't create test file c:\Program Files\MySQL \MySQL Server 5.6\data\gast.lower-test 2013-04-13 23:44:22 2592 [Warning] Can't create test file c:\Program
